Empire Ears - Discussion & Impressions (Formerly EarWerkz)

Are there any similarities between Bravado and Legend X?. Obviously the X will sound better,, but are there any similarities in how they're tuned ?

The most obvious difference between the two will be in staging and presentation. The Bravado is more up-front, exciting and engaging, while the LX is significantly wider and more spacious. Bass-wise, both provide excellent energy, but the LX has a lot more sub-bass quantity and extension. As a result, the low-end on the LX is more defined, resolved, physical and textured. The Bravado's energy is more in the upper-bass which provides a more beater-emphasised sound to kick drums, for example. Both IEMs carry great balance between the midrange and treble for equally neutral tonal profiles, but the LX has better linearity in the treble (while the Bravado IIRC has a middle-to-upper-treble peak for more prominent sparkle). And, again, the LX's superior extension creates a larger stage with more headroom and better organisation.

For those who have CIEMS from EE, does the build time actually take 5 weeks or is it a little shorter? Just asking bc for 64 audio I received my Tia Fourte in 3 weeks when it was showing 5-6 weeks, kinda hoping for the same situation here lol.

That was my experience 3 weeks but I am a returning customer and they had my impressions on file. That may have shortened the window.

From the day that I had my impressions done at the distributor here in HK to the day I received the iems, it was about 6 weeks...but I live half way around the world from where they are, so I'm guessing that around 1 - 2 weeks of that time was for shipping.

Going custom for the first time ever for a Legend X. Nervous/excited!

Congratulations on a sweet choice. I'm loving my CIEM LX more and more every day. I think I can say, they are currently my new favorite.

(sorry Fourté! but you ain't going nowhere!)

Got my impressions done today, waiting on Ethan to review over the pics I sent him. If they're all good I'll be mailing them out this afternoon!

Here, in more details, I did a mini-review.
Very interesting! I'll give it a read when I get a chance. I have way too many in-ears and cables and they get mixed up without any organization.

I just opened my new Bravados in-store and I'm testing some songs. I'm having trouble even describing how nice they sound. My mind is at peace.

I get to demo the Legend X next :)

More impressions later.

this week I've been using the pink filters + final e type clear tips on the IMR R1. A bliss. But sanity keeps me on the fence to spend 10x as much as this ex-demo unit for total seal + comfort... It's to the point where I actually question the need to go to CJ London at all.

Well, I can promise you, it doesn't sound ten times as good. The R1 is most excellent. But damn, Legend X is the sweeter, more coherent, and resolving monitor.

On the other hand, I love the big, open feel of dynamic driver IEMs. The LX does it in the bass, but not in the mids and highs. R1 does it EVERYWHERE. That's a special quality BAs can't quite achieve. Probably has something to do with funneling the sound down tubes. The closest thing I've heard is tia Fourté, using its tia tech for both mids and highs, and a DD for bass. It has a bigger, more natural sound, like an all DD IEM.

But honestly, when I'm listening to LX, I don't hear the tube effect after a few minutes, and it wows the hell out of me. It has the warmer, fuller vocals that R1 lacks, and the smoother, more organic treble. R1 comes off the slightest bit cold and sterile, despite its insane bass potential. Legend X has greater musicality and balance, and richer tonality.

Something like iFi Audio’s 2.5mm balanced IEMatch would work excellently in your case, and you could get their cheaper 3.5mm Ear Buddy for use with your keyboards (unless you already have a 2.5mm-to-3.5mm adapter). I personally have had no problems with the Aegis case. @davidmolliere ’s unfortunate accident was more a result of insufficiently cured shells, rather than incorrect positioning in the case.

Thanks! Will check that out. I already ordered the Effect Audio ultrashort 2.5 to 3.5, price was a little steep for an adapter tbh but didn't want to take chances on other brands.

Do you have universals or customs? The having tips on the universals seems to make it a little harder to fit them back in the case.

Great impressions! I was also worried about the case so I went ahead and bought a pelican 1010. You wouldn't have to worry about the them getting crushed since there is much more clearance. Only concern is that the audio plug is not separated from the iems so the knurling on that may potentially scratch the acrylic of the shells.

Wanted to buy the pelican case as well but am also concerned with scratching. I might try to cut out some of the hard foam from the aegis and substitute with a softer foam for less pressure when in a closed position.

I've ordered the Dignis case @twister6 mentioned few weeks ago. It will arrive tomorrow. I think it's a great idea and crushing shells won't be an issue anymore :)

Dignis case looks really sexy. Unfortunately, I don't have enough gear to fill it up. :frowning2:

@Ethan Groover - any advice on positioning UIEMs in the Aegis or even modding them to accommodate the extra height? It seems that my concern with clearance is shared by a few other people.

I"m so happy for you. I also feel relieved that you are also hearing what I said I hear, lol. The best thing is that they will get better over the new couple of hundred hours.. Also, I was playing some Bela Fleck and the Flecktones the other day and they DOOOOO rumble in the bass. If it's recorded, you will hear it.

Oh yes, they do RUMBLE, but only when the track calls for it. I can now hear the sub-basssss of my music and it adds a lot of depth but is not overpowering at all.
