Emmeline HR-2 Positive Feedback Reviews

These guys echo my thoughts almost completely. The HR2 does indeed embody the best of solid state amps(tight bass, dynamics and control) and some of the good qualities of a tube amp(tonality, overall smoothness). The Emmeline is a killer amp.

Congrats again to Ray on another great review of one of his products. Hmmm... bits and pieces of those reviews on the HR-2 sound mighty familiar...

Another review came out recently on EnjoytheMusic for his XR-2 phono pre-amp: http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazin...mmelinexr2.htm

Sounds like that Gary Beard reviewer has been lurking on headfi. He made the statement that R 10s owners swear by the synergy of the H-2 with the R-10s. I bet there is only two people in the whole world driving R 10s with the HR-2. One is me, and the other is Markl. I guess what I'm trying to say is that is not a very big sample size to be credited with such a statement. It is a bit misleading. Nevertheless, I'm happy as hell with my HR-2 and I agree with him that it is a great amp for the price. It is good to see the HR-2 get positive reviews. I'm sure there woluld be more Emmeline owners right now, but so many people that were in the market for a solid state amp ordered the Gilmore amps before anyone even knew about the HR-2. I guess sometimes its all about timing.

That's a fairly damning statement--for the reviewer, not the amp. Either he is given to exageration, or he threw that in as padding and fluff.

Remember too that there were numerous positive postings about the R10/Emmeline HR-2 combination from the Chicago meet. Kieran Comito's R10s spent a good part of Saturday attached to an HR-2 and Ray's vinyl setup.

He wrote "R10 owners". That's pretty significant considering the thought and weight behind every statment in a short review, especially considering the manner in which such reviews are likely to be perused.

True, but I would not let this small foible by the reviewer detract from all of the positive comments in the two reviews. The amp headphone form an extrodinary pair.

I'll take your bet. I can think of at least one other Head-Fi member who's trying the HR-2 with R10's, and will be posting a review of the Emmeline

gbeard is a Head-Fi member. I've had some very good private discussions with him, although not about the Emmeline. (I bought my ZOTL from him, so in a very real sense he's the person who got me hooked on tubes

Hi Headfi'ers,

Well, I finally get my reviewer baptism by fire.

First of all, I purposefully did not read Markl or Tuberollers reviews of these amps until after I had submitted mine to PFO. I was very careful not to plagerize anyone's writings or impressions.

That is not to say that I missed the comments about how the HR-2, or about the R-10's and the Emmeline. I have been reading almost every thread since I've been here. Most before I knew I had an opportunity to review the Emmeline. My R10 comment was not meant to be misleading, and prior to editing had a bit more of a humourous take (regarding my desire to try r10's as a reviewer), however, perhaps I should have stated that the Emmeline would likely rise to the occasion if an owner should desire a "better" headphone.

If you all think my statement is a gross inacuracy, I will ask for it to be edited, or I will write a comment stating such. When first I re-read it, I didn't feel it was wrong, but I after reading it several times over, I understand why it seems misleading.

I do owe this forum a great deal, as I would not have know anything about great headphones if I had not been lurking here some. As many here already know, I have been an active member as well.

FYI, there will be a PFO review of the Corda HA-1 Mark II soon as well, and I wish it had run first, as you will understand when you read it. Also if you read my PFO "Audio Discourse" this month, you may be more forgiving... I hope.

Anyway, thanks for the comments. Everyone has to start somewhere, and until now, I've been flying under the radar!

Addendum to my post:

I have asked that this portion be edited or deleted. I don't know yet what will take place. Maybe nothing and I will have to write a letter to the editor.

I don't know if you had to go as far as editing your review. It was a good reveiw, and to be honest, I guess I was nitpicking. Maybe you could say something to the effect of the Emmeline has even recieved positive praise from a couple of owners of the worlds best dynamic headphone, the Sony MDR 10.

Thank you Kieran.

Still I understand where you guys are coming from. I have already requested an additional comment to be added at the end of the review regarding this thread.

For the record: I wrote "Some headphone aficionados" not "owners". Still it wasn't quite right and I hopefully I have straightened that out.

Thanks to all for your comments both positive and negative. A very wise man once told me, " People who don't make mistakes aren't doing anything, just learn from them and go on."

I make plenty of mistakes, but I hope I have learned not to make the same one twice. That said, the art of communication, both written and verbal, can be extremely difficult.

Btw, Headphones are very
