Emerald amp with akg 701

The Carat Emerald? In my experience with the K501, I feel as though it's a straightforward combination...nothing lost yet nothing really gained. I feel as though that driving the phones past 3 o'clock just does nothing, and I wish that they do have more power. That being said, this thing does offer a lot just operating on USB power alone. I believe adding the DC adapter would have helped
