I just picked up the 'remastered' CD of what I feel to be Elton's most creative, most incredible release. Is it me, or is 'Captain Fantastic' Elton's masterpiece? I've never heard music like this before. This release is downright GORGEOUS!

It's not just you. Captain would just ease out "Madman Across the Water" as my favorite EJ release if only because the later can't claim such a perfect album closer as "Philadelphia Freedom."

In a perfect world, I wish "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" were cut out because he's too big to ape The Beatles. But then again, maybe he was big enough to? Hell, JL even contributed.

I've read it was meant as a concept album. Too bad I never noticed because the pop sensibility is so sharp. Every song is worthy on its own merits.

Awesome!

BTW, for high rez fans, the SACD is fantastic.

Great album! I just picked this one up early this year as well and was in for the same very pleasant surprise.

Check out Honkey Chateau , Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Madman Across the Water and Tumbleweed Connection. You may enjoy those albums as well!

I prefer Elton John's version of LSD to The Beatles.

Not sure about "best" but it is definitely right up there.
So many great albums. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is also stellar.

I remember eagerly awaiting his album releases back then. Captain Fantastic came out when I was 14. I think it was the last of his really great albums.
