I was thinking about taking an Electronics lab class at the local community college. Has anyone taken a similar class? I'm curious if it helped with your DIY skills.

This is the brief description from the catalog:

A.Course Description: (Approved catalog description.)

Manual skills training covering safety, soldering, wiring, electronic component identification, schematic symbols, wiring diagrams, blueprint reading, resistor color code, and use of tools.

Sounds like a class I took in high school.

Yes it will help you develop DIY skillz.......check out http://www.ibiblio.org/obp/electricCircuits/ for a "free" online basic electronics course.

Personally, it sounds a little boring, basically just describing the mechanics of it and the most basic stuff you need to know to get a simple circuit on a board, which you could learn yourself relatively easily by reading up online combined with trial and error.

But hey, some people learn better when they are in a more structured environment, whatever you want. It WILL teach you stuff you need to know if you want to make anything, but IMO most of that you can figure out on your own and by reading up on the web.

Well, some reading will get you the same thing...

A class I should probably take someday is the NASA soldering certification course... though apparently it's quite boring, I'd never make another cold solder joint again.
