Okay so I've been doing a bit of research for potentially new headphones (maybe). I've read a lot of reviews here at head-fi, and they're all great and down to earth. Here's the deal though, I LOVE electronic music (I dj, produce, and admire). I'm thinking about getting some darth beyers- that's what I've concluded. I'm currently using a pair of K701s with a LD MKIII, and it's pretty damn good combo with it's soundstage...makes it very unique for me. Anyway, all the reviews I read were mainly written by "rockers" and classical fans (and in-between), but I can't find too many that talk about how good their phones are with electronic music. So...

If you listen to electronic music, what is your preferred headphone?

Audio-Technica ATH-AD2000. It's the only headphone I use to listen to such artists as Crystal Method, The Prodigy, Orbital, etc.

There are plenty of headphones with more bass quantity than it, but the AD2000's bass output is perfect for me. Doesn't overdo it, and it's fast.

I'd recommend the Sony SA5000. They've got outstanding low and high frequency extension. The stereo field is pinpoint accurate. And they're fast enough to cleanly depict digital synthetic sounds. Many regard them as some of the most detailed headphones available.

As an electronic music producer, I find that I can trust the way my mixes track with the SA5000s. They present a clarity across the spectrum that vastly exceeds what the HD600s can do. I haven't spent much time with the K701s, so I can't say how they stack up.

I use the Sony MDR-SA5000 for electronic music, too. It's a great headphone and I much prefer it to the K-701.

Asr didn't mention it, but he wrote an excellent review of the ATH-AD2000 some time ago. Though I haven't heard it, the AD2000 is on the short list for my next headphone. Check out Asr's review; you'll probably want one after reading it.

Okay, so I've never even remotely WANTED to be in the presence of the SA5000s.... I never thought my head would be big enough, but you guys are making me extremely curious. I LOVE my K701s for every other style of music, so I'd hate to just get something "a bit better" for 325 USD. I'll probably head to the next meetup and hopefully check them out. Still open to suggestions though, thanks so far.
