Electric fly swatters

I personally use the big yellow one that's made in china that you see on ebay claiming to have 2000 volts. I don't know about that,... but it sure makes a loud noise when it fries the little critters.

and I would NOT want to touch it. It takes Big D size batteries.

We buy the cheap Chinese one that we can find at Wal-Mart. Then I upgrade them...I find and remove the "Leakoff" resistor - this allows the circuit to reach much higher voltages - it is MUCH more satisfying to hit the bugs - there is a large blue flash, and little wings spiral down - the body of most bugs is just vaporized.

I tried half length batteries, so I could double the operating voltage, but the storage capacitor couldn't take the fun for long. Sure was fun while it lasted, though.

Please teach me how to do this.
I have a small swatter that runs on 2xAA and draws about 260 mA at three volts. It works, but there isn't even a tiny flash when it kills an insect. I would love to turbocharge it

Fantastic - a modded electric flyswatter.

First I learn that they make an electric flyswatter, and then I learn that you can boost it up to vaporise flies - this is great fun.
