HI all. like i stated above,i have a psss noise when playing with my EF1's volume knob. it is really bad..? or is it normal..?
i don't know for sure if it is the tube, but i remember that it doesn't happens
with my other tubes.

does anybody have or had this problem before..? what can cause this? the noise is ONLY when music is playing. when there is no music there is no noise too.

EDIT: i also noticed that when turning the volume up or down there are sort of "jumps" in the volume, it doesn't changes smoothly..is this because of the active volume control? it can be scary sometimes, when you want to turn it down, it sort of jumps up at first(very fast and short ) and only than turning itself down. anyone familiar with that?
thanks you.

Scratchy volume knobs are very common, they just need a little cleaning. CAIG will do the trick for that, check at musicdirect.com. I'm not sure if a dirty knob is the case here, but it is absolutely worth a try.

thanks, the amp is pretty new though... by the way, it doesn't happen with all cds, i just noticed that.
i guess there are some recordings that encourage this to happen more than others.

mine was inconsistent at low volumes, under 10pm and scratchy sometimes

I was using low ohms, high sensitivity headphones which made it worse - because the amp sounded SOOO good at noon, but it was too loud. And attenuators failed me cause they took out the low end.
