(Edit: help me choose) Over-ear, inexpensive headphone recs for jammin' (electronic, prog, jazz, rock, everything)

Hi, first post. I wanted you to rec me good headphones that are reasonably priced (US$100-150 would be what I'm aiming for, though a bit more wouldn't be that bad).
 
I mainly would use them for listening to music. I listen to a plethora of genres: hip hop, electronic (idm, downtempo, garage, glitch, etc etc), jazz, progressive rock, metal (many subgenres, growing off it a bit), alt rock, post rock, pop, folk, hardcore, a bit of classical, post-hardcore, blah blah blah. I don't expect there to be a headphone that plays all of them flawlessly (I specially enjoy sound fidelity in electronic, prog, hip hop, jazz, post rock and such); anyways, I'm open for all sorts of recs.
 
Also, perhaps, maybe, I might get a bit into creating music via DAWs (for leisure, nothing serious), so bonus points for that!
 
As of now, I have a pair of ATH ANC27 (active noise cancelling). The sound quality is decent (a bit bass heavy but I like my bass), yet they are not very comfortable (they clamp hard and I get weary of them in a while); I also got tired of all the hassles of ANC (I bought them without much knowledge about headphones). I also have an iPod Classic. I mainly listen in my computer, and less often in long bus rides. I do not own an audio amp, interface, or custom soundcard at the moment.
 
I was looking at different headphones - the classic ATH M50's, Beyerdinamic DT 770, KRK KNS 8400, etc. It's a bit overwhelming how many choices there are out there. I'm basically looking for something with great sound quality for the price, and that is comfortable for long sessions - I wear glasses for reading and studying, might mention that.

What will be powering these cans?  Will you be using an amp?  Is portability important?
 
An alrounder has to be neutralish or at least balanced.

I'm considering buying an amp along with my headphones - one that's not expensive. For now, they're directly plugged into my laptop input. I'm not in a hurry by the way, for once I want to make a well-thought purchase. Portability adds bonus points, but is not THAT important (as long as it's not a burden carrying the headphones around).
 
I've heard that some neutral headphones feel a bit lifeless (no experience there); balanced and clear might be more appropiate terms. If the cans excel more at one genre than other, I don't mind that much as long as they're fairly versatile.

if you can get an amp to drive them the DT 770 250ohm might be what your looking for.

The DT 770 mentioned above has recessed mids (therefore not a good alrounder); is very large; and needs an amp.

Logitech? You got me there - I'd expect their headphones to be better at gaming and such, while being only "good" or "decent" at listening to music.

i don't know how much over 150 you are willing to go, but if you can spend 200 you could get the SoundMAGIC HP100. 
 
it is supposed to be a good neutral headphone. 
 
it will probably sound pretty good un-amped and will get even better with one (nice upgrade for you to get later).

if that's not what your looking for then the Brainwavz HM5 might be another good option.

For something that should work well as a portable, JVC HA-S680, $81
iPod should easily drive them and should also work plugged directly into the computer.

@Ginron it's always an option to go up to $200, as long as the cans are worth it and have lasting value. I'll research about those 3 you mentioned.

I own the HA-S500 and I like their sound, My best guess (from reading reviews) is the HA-S680s offer improvement over the HA-S500 & HA-S400s.

Not sure on how well the S680 compare to the higher priced alternatives.
A lot of the good Japanese headphones are only sold in Japan
and the HA-S680 are only sold in Japan.

- Either Beyerdinamics DT770 Pro (250 Ohms), Brainwavz HM5 or KRK KNS8400, + FiiO E11 Portable (is this h-p amp worth it? does it need anything else? etc)
- SoundMAGIC HP100 (no amp)

Do you rec saving the amp money and just getting a good pair of headphones?
 
By the way, it seems like the KRK are way too studio-oriented for my purposes (maybe I'm wrong, I've just read the reviews).
