Has anyone heard of something called "pre-approved" auction on ebay?

Someone claims that in this type of auction, the bidder cannot bid until payment is "confirmed." Also, the offer is less than half the item's market value. Sounds fishy to me.

Be careful !

I'm almost certain it's a scam. I was looking at laptops about a year ago and the auction page asked for "pre-approval". I replied and was then contacted directly with an offer to sell me the "new" laptop at about 1/3 regular price. The ad said the seller was in Montreal, so when I asked if I could pick it up, I was told the seller was actually in one of the Baltic States. He said he would only accept Western Union payment

Also, when I tried to find the auction page again ... 1/2 hour later, it was gone.

Since he gave me his London address, I'm just being very "cruel" on this guy.

Here's what I wrote him after he refused to take a certified bank check.

That's too bad. My dad is here with me. He said in that case, he has a friend who is a police sergeant in London. He can wire the money to his friend, and will ask his friend to go over to your place to get the speakers. His friend will ship the speakers to us here.

My dad is talking to his friend right now. So he'll probably be there sometime this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the great deal!
