Hi, have a quote from Cattylink for this player but wondering what extra charges I might expect when it arrives, eg Customs clearance, GST etc.
Input from any Australian owners who have done this greatly appreciated.

Thanks mtan, if you have physically received it then I think you are home free. I have been caught with other stuff and had to pay extra before UPS would release it for delivery to me. Customs clearance fees, GST, blah blah.
bad experience, added nearly 50% to what I bought.

Thats not fair!

I bought a valve amp from china and they delclared it was $260USD, and in the end I had to pay FedEX a total of $120. That included all the taxes PLUS there $65 brokerage fee....

hmmmm...that's strange. Australian Customs said it very clearly: if an item arrives via post (like UPS or ECI) and it's under AUD1000, it will go straight thru for delivery. See the site below:

http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page.cfm?u=5549

So what is this tax and brokerage charge?

It was my understanding that if the seller sends by like HKpost or something similar than there are no taxes.

Because I've bought numerous hi-fi products from China/HK. One seller sent my amp by HKPost and I didn't pay any taxes. BUT my second amp was sent by FedEX and was under $1000AUD but I still got charged duty taxes and brokerage fees (ie. cost for them to do the customs declaration and airway bill).

Quoted from customs site:
"Your imported goods may arrive in Australia either by airfreight, express courier, sea cargo or via the post office. The method of delivery will determine the Customs clearance formalities and charges."

Enverxis,
thanks for that - I wanted to hear from someone who had theirs already.

Pho Boi, my recollection of my previous experience with UPS was that if it were less than $1k by Postal Service, that did not require Customs, BUT if by courier service (FTR - UPS is a courier service - USPS is postal) eg UPS, DHL, Fedex etc then the limit was $250 including freight cost! and yes, they charged me something like $50 to do an electronic customs lodgement. Then there was the GST issue, normally <$500 goes through with no issue, but because they did the Customs thing (even though the Customs duty was nil) - I had to pay GST on the whole catastrophe, including their fees!
