You're probably going to be better off posting this in the Headphone category.

There are lots to choose from, and the group hear is very helpful. Keep in mind however, that many of us have very bruised wallets, so cheap is a relative term.

What is your budget, what style of music do you listen to?
Also, what type are you looking for? ear buds (small things to stick in your ear) or headphones (larger with a band to go over your head to hold them in place?)

I'm sure a moderator will move the thread to the right forum for you.
good luck

haha well i listen to loadza stuff.. i think what people would say everything, with exceptions of hiphop and rap (i dont hate it, i just dont listen to it in my own time).

i listen to rock, progressive rock, progressive metal, classic metal, thrash metal, (most metal types, except for the emo/punk metals), classical (violin solo, piano solo and orchestras), jazz (e.g...wes montegory, duke elligton, dave brubeck ).

i want CLEAR sounding headphones. the more you hear the better. (i like studio headphoens for general lsitening too, but i need portable small ones,).

EQ'ing doesnt matter. colour doesnt matter. i just want it clear and straightward right at me.

i like that

budget..i plan to get something not that pricey.. but i would like to see suggestions from every price range anyways.. i'll see

Etymotic Research ER-4 $220 street
Etymotic Research ER6i $120 street

I haven't heard any cheaper small headphones that I would describe as clear and accurate. The I've heard the PX200 and KSC-55 and thought they were good for the price but not clear or accurate so much.

Cheap: Sony Ex-71
Medium: Ety ER-6i (my current set)

I used to have the ex-70, similar to the 71 just older by a year. They get a lot of bad press around here, but depending on what you're listening to, they're pretty decent. I think for the rock, metal, and probably most jazz they'd be good, though I never did try them with clasical. I think you can find them online for less than $50

Currently I'm using the er-6i from Etymotic. These are great. Good isolation, very clear, crisp tight bass, nice mids, and excelent highs. They take some getting used to, as they do go rather deep into the ear, but after a short while, they'll feel natural. Price varies depending on where you get them. I'd recommend discountheadphones.com good price, cheap shipping, and a forum sponsor.

Some other canalphone favorites around here are:
Shure
- E2c US$99
- E3c US$179
- E5c US$499

These ones require a visit to your friendly audiologist for some molded ear impressions...
Sensaphonics
- ProPhonic Soft 2X US$800

Ultimate Ears
- UE-5 Pro US$700
- UE-10 Pro US$900

I would definitely look in the headphone forum and read reviews, while I am new - I must say, you can learn a lot from these people, even if it is just their opinion, they seem to know what they are talking about. Do a search on canalphones as well as portable solutions. Seems like people ask about it everyday.

I, for one own a pair of PX200's and am very satisfied for the $25 I paid for them (they were 1 month old, got em in the for sale/trade/want to buy area). They are probably the best portable, closed, cheap solution out there...and if you do not need closed and you like bass, go for the PX-100 - they are $10 cheaper and I think actually sound ever so slightly better.

If you're on a budget give the Senn. MX 400, 450, 500, or 550 a try...

The Sony e888s are also pretty good. Might be a bit uncomfortable for people with smaller ears though.

Or maybe the Audio-Technica CM7 or the EC7...

Or you can go with the Ety's...

Or Shures...
