Hello!

I have been reading recommendations for IEM headphones.

THere are some clear favorites, but I am looking for some that will comfortably fit under a full face motorcycle helmet please?

I will use them with my cellphone, which is also an mp3 player and GPS unit. Are there any high quality IEM that have the built in mic for cellphone use?

Or do you need to buy the jack /mic headphone adapter?

budget is about $150

thanks!

I am not aware of any IEM with built in mics for a cellphone so I'd say you'd probably need to get that separate.

something that would fit under a helmet would probably need to fit in the ear pretty well not coming out at all or very little so you should look into that.

My brother-in-law had a helmet with build in headphones. I don't know if he modified it or it came like that but that is something you also might want to consider.

I always thought helmets have them built in...

Maybe you can look into aviation headsets?

I agree. My dad uses them on his 1200GS with an Arai helmet, and he feels no pressure on his ears nor on any other part of his head.

*sigh*

The closest thing I can think of is the Shure headsets for (mono) IEM + mic.

I've tried most of the different solutions for bike helmets. Chatterbox makes several sets of speakers designed for helmets with and without microphones, but they don't sound very good for music imho. I got the Ety er6i and they sound much better, but they aren't comfortable, and I didn't feel they had enough bass response to overcome the road noise while riding. Comfort really depends on your ears, so you can take the comfort remark with a grain of salt. Your results may vary. What worked for me was the Westone UM1. I ordered them from Earphone Solutions and they have proven to be the best solution for me by far. Super comfortable, at least as good if not better islolation than the Etys and to me they sound much better. Originally I used the short comply tips that came with the UM1s, but now I'm using the medium Shure black olive foam tips. For me, they are more comfortable and they do a better job of blocking outside noise. Again, this is just my opinion, but Ive been so impressed with the UM1 that Ive been seriously considering the UM2 or Westone 3 for listening at home. (I don't see a need to go any higher end than UM1s on the bike since I like to keep the volume low enough to hear what is going on around me while riding and any additional sound quality would be covered by outside noise)

Hope this helps.
