Helloo

I was interested in buying westone UM1's, as my other earphones (Head direct RE1's are open type earphones and don't really offer me the sound isolation that I wish I had). I see that the wires will go around my ear. Will this be uncomfortable for me because I wear glasses?

Also, there doesn't seem to be much talk about westone on these forums anymore (I guess people are waiting for the UM3's, or something). How are the UM1's? Are there any other recommendations for me around that price-range (~$100)?
I'll be using them with my Cowon D2 and possibly an amp (FiiO), And will mostly likely be used for commuting to campus and for long bus rides. I'll be listening to mostly indie type of music (Broken social scene style), but will also need to listen to classical and jazz (So, music with many instruments).

It won't be uncomfortable because you wear glasses. Westone cables are very light and flexible. IEMs with memory wire (like old-style UE universals) or thicker cables (like Shures) can interfere with glasses slightly, but even then it's not a big deal. I wear glasses all the time and have never had a problem and neither have my many spectacled friends whom I've browbeaten into getting UM1s.

There's still talk of Westone around. At their respective price points, I think the UM1 and UM2 are unbeatable. Particularly the UM1. There's nothing I'd recommend over it for under ~$120 new, though you can beat it at about that much if you're buying used but even then you'd be greatly sacrificing ergonomics and build quality, the former of which is essential for an IEM you'll be using daily. More so than I originally thought when getting into this stuff.

If you do get them, get some Shure black "olive" foamies to go with them. You also won't need the amp.

As much as I like them, they don't do fantastically with complex classical stuff. In that range I'd say the ER-6i are better, but pretty much only for that. For a one-IEM solution, UM1 for sure.

Thanks monolith for the info!

I've heard that westones are amazingly comfortable, and didn't want that to change because I have glasses.

Theres a shop down the road near my house that sells a lot of shure earphones, so I will pick up some foamies from him if I desire some experimenting.
