On various threads, there are comments on replacing pleather earpads with velour, notably the Beyerdynamic DT770LE. Usually the consensus is that whilst comfort goes up a notch, which is especially important to those that live in humid climates, the sound "suffers" a notch too. Personally I have done that for my DT770LE, my Grado SR325iS, and my Sony MDR-ZX701iP. Now I'm thinking of buying a Hifiman HE400 with an extra set of velour pads.
I thought it'd be interesting to hear other members' comments and experiences in one thread rather than in the different individual headphone threads.
I've found that with judicious use of headphone amps' EQ controls, or EQ on the PC/iPod etc, I'm able to live with the so-called "drop" in (perceived?) sound quality.
