Just between these two amps which would come out ahead in a A/B comparison? Mainly Jazz and Female vocals. The headphone would be the HD600/Cardas combo.

The RKV is one of the best amps I've ever heard with the Sennheisers, FWIW. Were I faced with that choice for Sennheisers, I'd grab the RKV and not look back.

No luck on the Melos, eh? Well I guess that was a sign to just keep searching for the best amp out there

?

Go with the RVK, cause I'd love to get a chance to take a listen to it!

uh, don't you have a max?

rkv is awesome. i didn't get a chance to listen to the earmax pro at the meet (it was hooked up to a portable, i mean come on!) but i believe joelongwood (owner of the earmax pro) was *quite* impressed with the rkv.

but me, of course, i love the rkv. it's awesome, especially with hd600/cardas.

I think he sold the Max because he's "getting out of headphones."

I agree with the other posters: Get the Audio Valve RKV! It is an excellent amp to pair up with the Sennheiser HD580s and HD600s! You will NOT be disappointed. On the contrary, you will feel (as I do) that you've made one of your best audio purchases ever.

Why? You simply get a lot for your money. Actually, at the present price of $850 from Meier-Audio.com, the RKV should be considered a high end audio bargain! Maybe, in a few years, the RKV's price will climb back up to the $1,200 or $1,300 area. So I do suggest you get one ASAP! Don't wait for the economy to get better in order to act. By then, it might be too late!

Not only is it a great sounding amp, the RKV is also the most elegant amp I've seen. When they first see it, my friends always make a positive comment on the RKV's looks. I usually hear this one: "This is the most beautiful amp I've ever seen!" I hapen to agree! The RKV is indeed a gorgeous looking amp!

To sum up...
The RKV offers great performance and a truly beautiful case at a very good price!

Get an ocean-blue EMP! It's so cute and sounds so wonderful with the HD 600, gives it a strong, deep bass and makes the treble shine so delicately, you will forget to wear a headphone and simply sink into music. They're like made for each other.

On the other hand, after so many positive statements I'm sure the RKV is a great amp with the HD 600, too – you can't go wrong with either. Hope this helps.

I have no doubt the RKV is just as impressive as everyone says; the EMP just exists at a different price point. If all you're doing is driving HD600's and can spare the extra dough, go ahead and get the RKV. On the other hand, if you plan on buying low impedance cans in the future, you have buy an impedancer for the RKV--something the EMP does not require.

In any case, these are two excellent amps and I seriously doubt you'll regret getting either.

lex, you are like Sonny Corlione. Every time you think you are "out", they pull you back in!

Seriously, if you want to be seduced by an amp, get the RKV. It's that simple. If you like the MG Head, and have the extra cash, you will love the RKV. It does have a definite signature (lush, thick, powerful, slightly rolled-off, come immediately to mind). The kind I would expect from a tube amp.

And its gorgeous too! You will want to display it proudly as much as play it privately. Oh hell, go for it!

I agree with everything you say about the RKV, jpelg..........that's why Im anxiously awaiting mine. Hopefully it will be here before Christmas.

On the Godfather reference, though, I think it was Michael Corleone, not Sonny, who was always being pulled back in.
