Well it has arrived. The emp anniversary I ordered on friday is now here.
I have posted pics in headfi picture forums.
These are initial impressions only. I have only had it a hour. These came with stock tubes. I haven't had time to order some quality tubes to tuberoll it. I used three headphones quickly. HP-2's, senn hd600, sr325's. The main amp is finished in black laquer. It is true to stop you buying the power supply to upgrade your EMP it has been fitted with a 4 pin connection.
But how is the initial sound. Well even straight away the amp is already on par with the emp for sound. This is with no warmup. Wait till I burn it in and then order some tubes for it. The first thing I notice is that it is faster pace with music. When I had the EMP the one failing for me was that it was a bit slow timing wise. This has the timing of the best SS. Also because I haven't burnt it in yet it is slightly on the bright side compared to my old EMP. But here is the thing. Everyone knows the polite and laid back sound of the senn hd600. Well with this amp it isn't!!!!!! The senn hd600 gains the mid range and sounds a bit more forward. Bass at the moment is seriously lacking but I expect this to change over time. So grado headphones don't sound good at the moment. All you get is treble and mid range. The thing I like about the earmax's is that they are so warm they take the edge of grado's sound. At the moment the senn hd600 is already shining with this amp and is kicking the grado's ass up and down the street.
I had to use the EMP anniv. with my tri-vista and nordost spm reference as it doesn't have balanced inputs so the valhalla's are as useful as a choclate teapot. My Mark Levinson still hasn't arrived. It still stuck in UK customs clearance. It is only 6 miles away from me
Please these are only initial impressions. Of course the usual disclaimer rubbish applies IMO+IME
Stop Press My replacement rs-1's have arrived as well. Damn life is good!!!!!
