The shells of both your Yuin PK2 and Shozy Cygnus are copied from docomo earbuds shell, so they have exactly the same shell size.
Thanks for confirming that. Hmm, its a lot more than what i wanted to spend though, going to look more into this, thanks.

Someone also recommended the Lun Sheng Ye01 (new version) which is 15.5mm wide, but i cant find any info on it...does anyone know more about it?

Im assuming you meant this? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004769988512.html?algo_exp_id=acad0471-a7f4-4194-8010-2dc395ce88ad-0&utparam-url=scene:search|query_from:

Found a review saying the speakers are "bigger than normal" which makes it uncomfortable compared to the standard PK shell. I dont quite understand how thats possible though, unless it uses the bigger pk shell.

The official store has another version with a different shell, using a 14mm driver : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004781888654.html?algo_exp_id=acad0471-a7f4-4194-8010-2dc395ce88ad-1&utparam-url=scene:search|query_from:#nav-review, not sure what shell that is though.
Yes, the first link is the one I am referring to.

I just edited my original post with another option.

I was about to ask about TG-38S, what a timing.

I ordered a pair on Taobao (Tigoor/Tingo official - https://world.taobao.com/item/21425919834.htm), but no response from seller yet.

And I see there's Chitty's on AliEx (https://vi.aliexpress.com/item/32435966900.html), wondering if it is the legit set from Tingo instead of DIY... Tingo seems to have changed to new cables with no branding/marking like the old ones. Are there any sonic differences? Anyone with both versions, pls kindly enlighten me. :)

I recall reading on social media (and from 2 friends who bought the newer TG38S) that they did some stealth retune (like the shells are a bit different in the venting or something).

So the newer TG38S sounded quite bad compared to the OG that was quite hyped. The newer ones according to my friends are overly bright and harsh, losing the magic of the OG.

I think most of the ones sold nowadays are the new version, unfortunately.

You mentioned the "Venture Electronics Monk Slim Metal" uses the bigger PK shell because it is double vented, but the regular PK shell is double vented as well :

Sound wise, do you think the Monk SM is roughly on the level of the NiceHCK EB2S Pro, Yincrow x6, and other ~$20 USD earbuds, or is it significantly better?

On a related note, does anyone know the shell size for the Fiio FF3S?

Just out of curiosity, what is the biggest shell or DD driver out there? Follow-up question, does it sound good? Thanks!
AFAIK, the DUNU Alpha 1 is the earbud with the largest diameter shell which measures in at 18.06mm and that's before putting on a required rubber ring, which increases the diameter to 19.90mm. The Alpha 1 is a dual driver earbud. It uses a 16mm DD driver and an angled BA driver. I have a set and my ears can just barely accommodate them. Proper fit is critical for the Alpha 1 to sound good. People that don't get a good fit often complain of lackluster bass which in some cases is because the user has small ears and they also complain about not being able to fit the Alpha 1 into the concha area without some pain.

With a good fit, they sound excellent... and NO, you can't have my set of Alpha 1 buds. LOL. They aren't produced anymore. If you're lucky you might find a NOS set, but more likely getting hold of a used set is the only option.

Thats very helpful, thanks a lot. Hmm, it doesnt seem like there are a lot of choices for those of us with smaller ears :(. Would you be able to suggest anything? Was hoping to find something in the USD $40-70 range similar to the Yuin PK2, and I like the comfort of the PK shells.

I'm not 100% certain but I read somewhere that some PK shells may only have one open vent, the other is blocked. Maybe others who DIY their own earbuds can answer that.

I consider the Monk Slim Metal (abbr to SM from now on) to be neutral bright. Note weight leans on the thinner side, very detailed and plenty of treble quantity. If you find it too harsh, you can change to a thicker foam to add more body and smoothness to the sound although at the expense of reduced details but still satisfactory to my ears. Pairing it with an analog sounding source can also help.

It is a polarising earbud because it works with some music genres and not so well with others. If you listen to acoustic instruments, genres such as classical, jazz and singers accompanied with piano/acoustic guitar, the SM will be fine. Other genres like pop, electronic, rock won't work so well.

Back in the day I used the SM quite frequently, I listen mostly to classical though, so for my own usage it's a good earbud for $20 but if I had varied music tastes I think my opinion would be different.

How about another set of Yuin PK2? They are re-release version, but none the less supposed to be "genuine" Yuin PK earbuds.

Moondrop's new U-2 earbuds. I measured them at 16.25mm and they are tuned to be used without any foams.

I took the Shozy Cygnus to the cashier on Aliexpress and it was on sale at the moment so it went down to about USD70.
I think you can use "SS8" as Promo code.

Ah, i think i realised why the prices are different from what i was seeing, aliexpress is using a different currency conversion rate. 70 USD actually equals to about 95 SGD, so i saw that the pricing $113 SGD which made it a bit too high. With a coupon applied, i can get it down to about $103 SGD which is pretty close though. Was really hoping to spend less since $100+ is a big sum of money for me...but what the hell i may give it a shot, i havent bought anything higher end than a pk2 in like a decade.

Edit : Damn, my government is charging 9% GST and its automatically applied in the cart. So its more expensive than i thought...

I feel like im paying a premium just because my ears are small :(. I probably would have gone with the Dunu Alpha 3 if i could handle the size.

Yea, i was leaning towards buying another PK2, as a stop gap measure if nothing else. The price seems to have dropped a lot. Went with the Shozy Cygnus anyway, was a lot more than what i wanted to spend so i hope it works out. If the sound quality is only on the level of the PK2 and not significantly better, it would be a huge waste of money because the Cygnus costs more than double that of the PK2...

Now i guess i have to wait about 2 weeks for it to get here...

I guess I'll stick with my DIY TC200 then. I've read some reviews that these two sets sound very similar (or even the same). Definitely not going to try my luck and potentially get the same set at more than double the price.

And to think that 1.5mm is not that of a big deal to fill with extra cushion of some sort... A follow-up question, if I may... If I want to fill even more my concha, the NiceHCK silicone rings are great, and assuming I don't want to attenuate the FR with foams, what is still out there that I am missing? Is there a thicker silicone ring I could buy, for instance?

I tried stacking the NiceHCK ones on top of the thin silicone ones that came with my FF5, but that approach is a pita to align and not reliable. Scissoring the foams to make them hollow is also an alternative, but a pita to make them right too. Last week I tore a foam ring while installing it. Needless to say they are very fragile.

Thanks again for the info. 👍

You can try plumber's teflon thread tape. The smallest width tape is probably too wide for buds. Cut long thin strips and wrap it around the speaker / shell area to build up the diameter. After wrapping enough tape, pull it tight and smooth down the loose end, might be good to put a silicone ring over the tape to keep it secure.
