That's still 10 dB pinna gain on top of a sub-bass roll-off.
Definitely saner than their previous 20 dB pinna gain creations, but I suspect it might still be a bit shouty (especially at louder volumes as per the Fletcher Munson curve).

Looks like the usual overzealous 20 dB ear gain from 1 kHz to 3 kHz. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Sorry @jeejack looks like your sincere words didn't get thru to him.
Honestly, I spoke to a previous CHIFI rep at one of the Can Jams and was telling them westerners don't like over boosted treble/upper mids. Their reply was that the mainland Chinese market (1.4 billion) is their main pool that they tune for, and they love boosted upper mids (AKA FEMALE POISON, also known as 毒音). They domestic market loves steroid infused female vocals perhaps due to their music genre preferences. So we in the rest of the world probably are a smaller pool of customers, and of course they will design their gear for where the bigger market and $ is.
I'm rather enjoying the Shozy MXN more that the Shozy Cygnus if I'm honest they have a c very pleasing warm thick bass heavy sound using the doughnut foams with nice texture in the low end not particularly extended in the treble almost dark a great byproduct of this approach is zero sibilance. Lorde Pure Heroine album sound great with no low end distortion. Freya Rider Love is free sounds full and organic in its solid bass and mids rendition her voice having lovely texture. Treble details while on the darker side are still there just not on your face and fatigue free. A real positive for is the none shouty upper mids.
I would argue though that we have such great choices of earbuds nowadays (both DIY and shop made) that I wouldn't waste time doing mods to salvage bad tuning.
My collection is growing next I want a flat head with less congestion in the upper mids while still having goid bass and warm mids an suggestions in the sub $100 price range
Thanks for the link. This thread is already way too big for a simple search. Searched for a couple of models yesterday, and each search showed me at least 10 pages of reading. Gave up.
The 4Ks, on the other hand, take a more energetic and forward approach that makes you sit up and listen. Their tuning is still quite balanced, but the low end has more impact and energy (without being elevated much more than the 3Ks) and the treble gives you a significantly more incisive presentation with some additional detail and sparkle without being fatiguing or sibilant. If the 2Ks are lush, warm, and a bit veiled like the Sennheiser HD650s and the 3Ks are clearer, less warm timbral masterpieces, then the 4Ks are what Sennheiser was shooting for with the HD800s: A technical power with with impressive dynamics (macro and micro), detail retrieval that outstrips previous models, staging that provides the kind of height that gives you more layers, and an overall more intense and insightful transducer. However, Yincrow managed to do this and keep that same excellent timbral and tonal accuracy and without treble peaks that can feel like icepicks to your frontal lobes. Something Senn has been unable to accomplish. (Source: I have owned the HD800 and currently own the HD650 and HD800s)
Great write up. Yeah, I am torn between the 3Ks and the 4Ks at the moment. The latter is a tough cookie, as it is a similar price than what I paid on my 650s nearly 3 years ago.
I assume both have a solid build with a robust MMCX interface? Will they work with FiiO cables with the expanded head? E.g.: LC-RD, LC-RC, LC-RE, etc...

Oh for sure, I've got good buds (both bought and built) but I've already spent ~£80 on the buds that for all their faulty tuning are still really nicely built. It just bugs me that they're collecting dust.

Others can chime in, but I think you're aiming for a set of the Yinman 600's. They are slightly above the $100 limit you've set, but an AE Summer sale coupon + 5% off with coins + store coupon could help reduce the cost.
That product page is never updated with new pictures. You would order Color: Gray
When the order confirmation appears in your AE messages, send the store a message and tell them you'd like the cable to be terminated with 4.4mm Balanced plug.
In an earlier post I was on the fence on whether to jump on the Smabat M5 Pro Golden or not. My curiosity got the best of me and I bought them just before their crowdfunding period ended.
Well, there is good news, and bad news... I received my M5 Pro Golden today, and as usual, they are TOTL..... for aesthetics and quality. That is where the good news ends though.
... but it seems like a mixed bag. Have your opinions changed during this time?
Also, the modular approach can quickly turn into a curse, as one may be conditioned to keep purchasing different modules (heads?) in order to experiment with these buds. Sadly, it looks like a yellow flag to me.

As JA had mentioned, the RW-3Ks are the all rounder smooth operator and the RW-4Ks have a unique midrange refinement and clarity. While some folks prefer the RW-2K over the 3Ks and vice-versa, I feel the 4Ks stand on their own.
Both 3k and 4k have no problem being attached to the FiiO LC-RC cable.

The M5 Pro is better than the previous M4 model. As you mentioned, the modular approach does mean that you'll more than likely need to buy some of the other drivers to experiment with. Fortunately their modular drivers aren't that expensive, but for the total cost of the base shell and several drivers, you could probably put that money toward buds that have a proven track record.
Talking about a proven track record, the Yinman 600's have proven to be some outstanding earbuds if driven properly. There have been a few people that didn't like them for various reasons, but the majority of people in this thread that have them (including myself) only complement them by saying how rich and deep the bass is, while also having a refined top end without any sibilance. Once you start listening to some music, you get immersed in their "magical" soundstage. I'm sure others could give more comments on them. So yes, I raise my hand and vote: Yay!
Yinman 600 ohm has a ridiculous 87 dB/mW low sensitivity and 600 ohm impedance, and is one of the hardest transducers to drive. By driving well, I don't mean hitting adequate volume, but driving to proper dynamics, bass tightness and soundstage.
So it needs and amp (preferably a desktop level one) to scale optimally. While it can be driven off a weak source, the bass is flabby (one-noted) with compressed dynamics.
But if driven well, it is a very smooth and lush sounding earbud, thick note weight without harshness, very natural sounding.
The store does free termination of the cable (just PM the seller). As it comes in 3.5 mm single-ended stock form, this earbud would benefit from a balanced termination so as to get more power from balanced sources.
