Hi i am new to this forum. this would be my first post.
My question is, wat ear buds do you recomend. i usually see everyone recomending cans, but im not a fan of those.
right now i own the EX70s.
I love the bassy sound and my Minidisc player has a EQ on it so i get decent sound out of these. i have about 100 bucks to spend on buds. What do you guys recomend?

Welcome to Head-Fi, dan. I have two buds in your price range that I would recommend.......the Sennheiser MX-500 and the Sony MDR-E888LP. The Senn can be found for around $15, while the Sony is around $70. I prefer the Sony for its beautiful midrange. Others prefer the Senns. It's a matter of personal preference. I will say, that for their price, the Senns are an excellent value.

Hi Dannn

You say you like bass, and you use your EQ... do you use it to lower, or increase the bass into the EX70s?

If its to lower, and you want better definition, then Joe's recommendations are very valid... but if its to ADD bass, forget about the very fragile, delicate E888s... you'd make them into a gloopy mess of sound within a week...

I also am not really sure that the MX400/500s would be up to the job... they're too polite...

If you want mind-numbingly heavy bass... pick up a pair of Sennheiser PX200s... they're NOT earbuds, but they have a very slim profile... looking very discreet... and are the bassiest pair of headphones i've ever heard... beating even the MDR-V6 into submission!!

for a little more you can get the ety er6 with foam tips. beats the pants off any bud mentioned in this thread. plus you are already used to the isolation of the ex70 and sticking it in your ear.

The PX200 is significantly less bassy than the EX70. But where bass on the EX70 is delivered in a wall of flab, the PX200 does at least have a go at putting some semblance sonic detail in there. I don't believe any other earbud on this planet delivers so much bass.

Do some research on this forum on the Etymotic ER6 and the Shure E2C. There seems to be consensus that the ER6 are better cans, but a lot of people complain of fit problems with them. Not as much for the E2C, apparently. And the E2C are a little cheaper, but I think most would argue here that the ER6 are worth the extra buckage.

My advice? Pick up a pair of MX500; I just got mine and I love them. If you don't like them, then you're only out $20 and you can probably recoup half that by selling them. Most people here rave about them against buds at almost any price point (save for Ety 4). If you're not happy with them, sell 'em and upgrade. This is exactly what I'm doing...

I second the suggestions. At the price range, both are quite interesting. I actually own both the MX500 and the E888. They both suffer from the same problem... isolation isn't as effective as I'd like.

But not all of us have Etymotics hanging around....

You can get them used sometimes for 90-100 dollars off the forum here, or you can get them for 137 or so shipped from headroom, and if you don't like them you can return them minus shipping, good insurance if you ask me

Actually, my E888 has more bass than the ex70. The ex70 has trebles that are too bright, while the E888 suffer from a muddy lower end. The sound is very immediate (the music sounds like its really close to you), but has very little separation of voices, if any at all (not sure whether this is a general failure of earbuds).

Going by this, originally posted by dannn, I think we can safely rule out the ETY ER6... can't we?

sometimes when i feel like having a bass heavy binge , i usually use my Koss Sportapros. by far they are the most bass-heavy headphones i own, even more so than my Sony MDR-7506. But as for earbuds... the Sony MDR-EX70's has lots of lower bass, but hardly any mid-bass and midrange, and the treble is so harsh you'll get fatigued in 5 minutes. I like the MDR-E888's because they're much more musical than the EX70's, but the mid-bass is a bit exaggerated. anyways... so far i havn't found a pair of earbuds that matches the sound of the Sportapros. ah well... i'll stick to my E888's.

i get plenty of bass from my er6. deep bass. have you guys tried them with the foam tips, and 2nd foam filter, through an amp? also, he seems to like to use the eq, and my experiements using bass eq with the er6-well it worked except "megabass" adds too much treble. anyway, with the configuration i mentioned above i am very very happy with the er6 now (megabass off, of course
