I'm reripping a bunch of CDs to mp3 using EAC and am having a couple of problems.
I have a few CDs that just don't want to copy. EAC rips them to .wav fine, but it nver convets to mp3. A black box pops up for a second or 2 (like when it works) but doesn't stay to copy.

Any ideas?

EAC itself doesn't convert the wavs to mp3. It uses an external compressor such as LAME to do it. My suggestion is to make sure the external compressor that you have EAC set up to use is actually working, or try another one.

That's the thing, most of my CDs work, it's just the odd few.

In that case, I would take the wavs and convert them using an entirely different encoder, completely outside of EAC.

If you still have the wave file, you can bring up a dos window and try and give the command for Lame to create the MP3. This will allow you to see an error message, if one exist as to why it is failing.

I don't see why you're using EAC if you only need MP3 (lossy) files. Use Nero or Foobar and save a lot of time and trouble.

If you have conversion failures with LAME try to read the result messages in the command window (black box).

WinLAME works great for converting wav to mp3, using the LAME encoder

Thanks guys, will try winLAME.
I'm using EAC because I had it for doing some FLAC rips, and I didn't want to have an entirely different program just to rip to mp3.

For reference, I fixed the problem. If anybody else has a similar problem, it's an error with LAME that stops it from working if it doesn't like the genre. I changed the genre to "Rock" before ripping in EAC, and it now works

What versions of EAC and LAME were you having problems with? And what were the genres it was barfing on?

There were quite a few genres it didn't like, one of them was "Industrial Metal".
Using LAME 3.97, and EAC version 0.95 beta 3.
