I am currently using my E5c's, as they are the only pair of IEM's I have. I sold my E4c's as part of a package deal. I just never could get into them like the E5c's. I guess that having the better IEM kind of put a damper on the E4c.

I am now looking for an addition to my E5c's. Something that has the crisp highs of the E4c, but with better ( and I mean tight Bass), not over emphasized.

I know there is a lot in the forums, but I would like to here from headfiers who either have the E4c and something else, or used to have it, and found something better. Thanks.

Westone UM2 with EQ can really sound like E4C, but still maintain the powerful bass you are looking for.

Therefore, you can try the Westone UM2, and if you like it, sell your e5c.

Well, Westone UM2 on bass rolled off iPod is already not giving out its full bass impact, so it is like you have already applied bass reducer EQ. All you need to do is to turn on the treble boost on your iPod, and then Westone UM2 will give you the crisp high you wanted from E4c and the bass of e5c. If you have an iPod, I think Westone UM2 has pretty decent synergy with it.

No, I just sold my iPod, but I use an X5L, and I really like it better.

Just talking on highs, what would be a better choice between the UM2 or SuperFi Pro?

Sorry, such a thing doesn't exist in the universal canalphone world. I wish it did, I would certainly get them.

I think I've had all the worthwhile canalphones out there (aside from the e5c), and with everything else you'll either be sacrificing bass (ie ety) or treble (most others). The um2 might work for you, as it's somewhere in between the e5 and e4 in signature. It isn't all that close to the e4 in the treble/detail region, imo (or else I would have kept them), but it Could be close enough for you. Some comparisons between the e5 and um2 might be able to give you a clue about that, I don't know.

A potential option might be the new altec lansing 'etys' with the bass boost. I don't know if they'll have more bass than the e4's though, even with the boost. Aside from that, customs be it. UE5c might work. I'm sure the Sensa's would work

If your willing to shell out $975 the UE10pro will satisfy your ultimate IEM craving for good. Other than having a different sound signature, I can't imagine an IEM sounding noticably better.

I'd go with UM2, personally I find it better to work with a fair amount of bass and then recess it if possible (EQ, various tips, etc). In compairison to the E5 it appeared that the UM2's bass was DEEPER, and really made me appreciate the level of impact for the price of these wonderful IEMs. Also, if you decide to purchase these IEM's they pair up nicely with Shure E5 Triflanges modded into biflanges (lots of treble and deep bass). If you decide to go with this IEM, dont forget to pair it up with a nice amp

and it wont let you down (pocketamp2v2 for budget, sr71/supermacro v3/AE-1 if your not on a budget) =P GL

I highly suggest you do not get Superfi pro for X5L. You will immediately notice the rolled off treble. Westone UM2 definitely has the potential to sound very similiar to shure e4c with some EQ adjustment.

If money was no object, then I would no doubt go that high, but I think it will come down to the UM2.
