Brought an L3 from an ebay seller, sent me a E3, said to keep it as goodwill gesture for the mistake. Gave it to the gf for her new headphones and she complained it makes the sound worse than the headphones on their own.
 
The voice level is a lower volume and has a distictly echo, and in general the volume is lower and sound quality worse. Tried with 3 different headphones, 2 different iphones, 1 computer and 3 new batteries. I'm not really bothered if it's a duff, free anyway, was wondering if there was a fix?

Please try to contact the seller to get a replacement, and it should be a defective E3 depend on your describability.
