I think I've narrowed my choices to these two. Do you guys think the D1 is worth getting over the E17 for sound quality reasons? They're both around the same price so I'm not really sure which to go with if I really dont intend to carry it around. The thing is that it'd be nice to nestle the e17 underneath say a headphone stand to keep things compact but if the D1 is truly significantly better sound wise...

I've had both as recently as last week. Oddly enough the e17 came out on top for me. I really prefer a desktop amp as I don't really need the portability. I like to have something to use a backup and the e17 ended up becoming my regular amp. Great features with a nice clean dac. Drives my he400's very well on +12 gain. I just can't find anything not to love about it. Highly recommend.
