So I just got my E-MU USB 0404 interface and started setting it up. I installed the programs (on Windows XP) and everything according to the manual, but when I run the E-MU application, it claims that no E-MU device is hooked up. My computer reads that the usb device is there, and even figures out it's an E-MU interface, but installing it through the included software hasn't worked and neither has using the new hardware wizard, so I'm pretty much lost. I'm waiting to hear back from E-MU support, I just thought maybe someone here has gone through this before. Please, I need help, I don't want to get turned off to recording on my computer before I even start.

Hi there. Welcome to head-fi....sorry about your wallet.

Anyway- I just purchased one and had the same problem. Here is how I solved it.

Restart your computer. Once your on your desktop, turn on the EMU 0404 USB and see if the new hardware wizard pops up. If so, point it to the cd directory where all the drivers are located and that's it.

Of course, YMMV but that's how I got mine to work. Fantastic sound by the way.

Now....if only I could eliminate the clicks and pops in foobar......

Please post all of your output preferences and the version of Foobar that you are using.

If it's set up right via the ASIO driver, with the proper thread priority and buffers, you shouldn't experience such problems.

How does it work if you play some mp3's or .wav's via Windows Media Player (which uses the WDM drivers)? If you don't get clicks or pops with WMP, then it is probably an ASIO set up issue within Foobar.

Do you experience pops/clicks when you play files in Foobar using DirectSound? Again, if not, then the problem is in the ASIO set up.

Also--as far as I know, Foobar 0.8.3 is much more reliable in preserving one's desired ASIO parameters....lots of reports here and elsewhere that 0.9 versions require frequent resetting of ASIO parameters on restarting Foobar.
