I ordered some Focal Clear OG to upgrade from my 1990 ( I use them EQed) and was wondering how good quality planars compare.

Something like the Arya stealth or Organic.

I’m hesitant to get planars because I have read that they don’t offer the same amount of slam and dynamics that dynamic driver headphones offer.

To those who own both, any thoughts?

I am intrigued with how fast planars are. But that might make them sound dry if they don’t trail a bit more naturally like dynamic drivers do.

Thanks !

The stealth won't disappoint, really well tuned. The organic was lacking where it drops in frequencies, just not my preference. I've got the DT1990 and the Arya Stealth is an upgrade from those. Planars have speed and generally take equalizing well if you have headroom for a preamp reduction. The new ones are much easier to power, the HE6SE will challenge any amplifier if you equalize them, stock they aren't that hard to power though.

Really? I’ve heard the Arya stealth is really fast but soft transient wise . Soft slam that is.

Thanks for the feedback!

You can't EQ a planar if it naturally has soft transients. You'll get a soft pillow perception even if you crank it up to ear bleeding levels.

Me personally, I'd opt for dynamic drivers since they're more resolving as a whole (aka more plankton) than planar magnetics (exception is a TOTL driven Hifiman Susvara OG). A ZMF Verite Closed will have better resolving ability than with any Hifiman headphones that's not Susvara OG.
