Does indeed but the amount of improvement varies from phone to phone and for most phones I wouldn't bother with an amp, I only use it because I allready had it and all my phones were balanced
i totally forgot about the gain setting at all. speaking of which, is there a general guideline for what gain to use? earlier i was listening to it (without realizing) on low gain at about 198 and that seemed great. currently i'm using the zero audio tenores which have a 16ohm impedance and 102db/1mw sensitivity.
You will get the lowest noise and greatest battery life with the lowest gain setting that gives you sufficient volume. With 102db sensitivity I would use low gain.

yeah, i experimented with every gain setting using the volume to get to about the same perceived level of loudness and compared the sound and felt that low gain came out the most pristine sounding, medium gain was okay and high gain had a little more bass punch but sounded a bit more ragged. so i'm gonna stuck with low gain for these iem's at about 190-ish on volume, that seems to be pretty ideal.
i got the dx90 and returned fiio x3. intial impressions are good, it sounds better than x3, i dont want to give any detailed opinion before any critical listening.
one problem:
i connected it via cinch to my main system and how can i listen and charge at the same time? battery life is really short
it doesnt let me play while the usb is connected. really stupid
