I am looking at one of these new DAP's to feed my new W4R. I have read through the V's thread and it looks like the X3 handles the lower impedence IEM's better, but the DX50 has a better sound? I am looking for a neutral DAP. Would I need an amp/DAC with either of these to drive the W4R's. I will occasionaly be using my ancient HD580 with this when my wife is not around. She doe not appreciate the sound leak of the HD's

I have been waiting for the release of the new Leckerton for driving both of these cans. Would the new Leckerton be needed with either of these DAP's?

My style of music ranges from Blues, Classic Rock, to Classical, and Jazz.

Thanks, for your advice and opinions.

Or, for the nearly the same price is the iPod Classic worth it. I have not had one of their full size players for many years, so I don't know what their sound is like, or the bit sample rate is.

I would really like to find a good DAP for my new Earphones.

I have placed an order for the 7th batch DX50 and it ships the 30th. I have heard many times in the DX50 thread that the W4R are great pairing with the DX50. My only current IEMs are the W4R which is why I bought the DX50. I do not believe an external portable amp is needed although it will more than likely of course improve the sound depending on which amp. One of the amps highly recommend in the DX50 thread is the C&C BH2, it is only 100 bucks. I have bought this amp and recieved it yesterday, I am very impressed with it but again I won't have the DX50 for another week or so.

IMO the W4R and the X3 doesn't pair too well and becomes a bit too dark for me.
I would recommend the DX50, but it would be best if you can demo both.

After a few weeks with the DX50 and Westone 4R with red star tips I couldn't be happier. You don't need an amp although I have the C5 and it does improve the sound.

W4R's arrived today and I'm totally floored by how good they sound! The 4R just KILLS my trusty Senn IE7's. I'm also loving the short/medium Star tips.

Anyway, I'm ready to pull the trigger on one of these two DAPs. But...which one?

Even though I don't have the X3 I can say the DX50 is absolutely amazing! My favorite tips are the Short/Medium Star tips as well, the comply ones are just too stuffy
