When I really started on this audio journey I choose the DX50 as my first real DAP and did so largely on the customer service reputation of iBasso. Years later it turns out it was a very good decision. I've had most of the iBasso products since that time and can say that their dedication to quality and customer service has been awesome. Not to mention the value.

I’m pretty much the same as you, started with the 50 and never looked back. Awesome company with a great philosophy and great products. A company on the up for sure and long may it continue

Amp4sssss will beat the sp1000 easily.

    I'm waiting for that one.

I wouldn't go that far, but everyone has different taste and opinion :smile_phones:

It's definitely my favorite since is a touch warmer than the Amp4.

Amp4s with its unique flavor has its appeal and is enjoyable with certain tracks. But I'm leaning more towards amp4. :)

I wish I could compare the two and maybe will be able to at some point. I can say that I am definitely enjoying AMP4S.

Myself also, haven’t got amp 4 to compare with my amp 4s but really enjoying it.

I own both AMP4 and AMP4S, and I'm letting AMP4S run burn-in... For the out of box AMP4S vs passed burn-in period AMP4, I personally prefer AMP4. YMMV

t think I need an amp5 for my bigger cans

Btw, when you guys picking and choosing different amp modules, keep in mind that not all of them support LO. For example, AMP4x doesn't have it. I mean, many wouldn't even care about LO and external amplifier connection when you got a powerhouse like AMP4  but still, keep that in mind :)

Amp 3, 4, or 4s would have more power than 5 and be better for bigger cans. Given the latter 2 are not available I'd say go for 3 or wait until the next amp.

Only if you want balanced output, if SE AMP 5 is way to go.

Well yes and no lol. In this case he needs more power for bigger cans. Amp 3 has the most power of the available Amps. Balanced output is just the means by which he gets the extra power.

IMO you should look at the objective first and the means second. Going balanced on its own makes no sense. Going balanced because more power is needed or because the balanced output and implementation of a particular device grants you certain sonic benefits, does. Not all balanced outputs are created equal, at all.

So, if he needs more power for larger cans, get Amp 3. Though yes, he may need to purchase a cable along the way if he doesn't have one with 2.5mm termination.

No disagreement there. I have LCD 2, and Xc series Audezee and AMP 5 sounds exceptional but it's SE . Also pushes T90, and HD600. But you're right about larger cans, depending on Power or current it would matter fo him.
