Did u read the picture of akm4497 ? 128Db dynamic range in stereos and 131Db in Mono (each chip per channel). So, higher is better. Can you hear it ?

I don’t want to debate, I will mostly aim for dual configuration. People pay $3800 for an upgraded cables. Makes no senses to use single chip lol

Yes but dx200 spec show 125db and lpgt 127db so ...then

My hdv820 had a single 9018 and it was superior sounding then dx200. And who cares it desktop or not it had 1 dac not 2. I never felt like it was laking behind.
Mostly to it never hissed at me to.

@Whitigir explane me whats the advantage to have 2 dacs. Sennheiser said 2 was an overkill because 1 dac chip of 9018 had 8 section of dacs inside of it. So 4 each channel they said was plenty good and reduced some harmonoc distprtions! And they do test it senmheiser is a well reputated company for high end gear.
So was it absolutly necessary to have 2 dacs in a dap. I dont think it is seriously. It can sound as good with 1 I am more than sure of this. Cause I heard it my self. Tiger ears dont lie remember that :k701smile:

Ok, you want me to simplify it to the simplest ? Noises

IC chip is like a miniaturized computer, and just like anything that processing and consuming power, it generate noises. Therefore, you are using multiple channel within a chip, it self generated noises can easily plague all channels and degrade the sound quality . Now, if you use 2 chips, they are separated, and their noises is not plaguing one another.

That is the simplest reason and explanations. There are more to it

Barely bearable = it is audible = it hisses, period. If it is audible hiss, I rather buy $950 device than a...$2800 device

You want to know the best way to deal with DAP and IEMS ? Follow what twister said, use higher impedance IEMS, get away from Phantom...sad, but true...unless you want to buy DMP-Z1 and see if it hisses
