Hello,

I have an iPod video30gb which I'm not using anymore since I bought an iPod Touch. I also have a pretty decent dvd collection. And I'm wondering if there is a way to watch my dvd's on my iPod without having to buy any software, I would also preferably not download any software, since I'm very paranoid about downloading on the internet.

Probably not a chance without downloading any software. Since the iPod can not read DVDs, and your OS install most certainly do not have a suitable built in DVD ripper.
You may want to check out HandBrake, although it require a download -> HandBrake

hang around long enough and you will see a phantom poster with 1 post who joins only to post an ad for the latest software to do just this. I actually came in here expecting it to be one of those ads and am pleasantly surprized its not. I was all ready to open up a can of whoopass on the BOT

I use xvid4psp for my zune/psp/ipod, though it's a bit buggy at times being freeware. I tried handbrake, but the videos came out with over saturated colors.

I don't think there is anyway of ripping DVD's without a downloaded piece of software. None that I've heard of anyway. Cucusoft supposedly makes something pretty good. It's illegal to do it in the United States, so I've never tried any of them out. Handbrake seems to be a reputable source also. Good luck.

Just as an afterthought. I wish the movie industry here in the states would give up the battle on this. It's just like a cd. If you purchase it you should have the right to put copies of it on any of your other media sources. But currently they are making extra money by selling digital copy rights dvd's along with blue ray discs. Guess you have to pay the movie stars here 20 million a movie somehow. Sorry, just my own personal complaint.
