Took awhile, but here's my Titan 3 review.

http://www.head-fi.org/products/dunu-titan-3/reviews/15544

TLDR: Tape mod absolutely essential.

This or having perfectly Titan-matching ears.
tongue_smile.gif

As in my ears, the tape-modded T3 sounds just like the stock T3 in my ears.

Some tape-modded measurements of the T3 and T5 I posted a couple pages back: http://www.head-fi.org/t/744083/dunu-titan-series-1-1es-3-5-ti-coated-diaphragm-half-in-ear-earphones/2550#post_12202820

Quote from my post in the link:
On a second side-note, I was always wondering why the Titan IEMs sounded bassier to me than on my measurements. The vents explain that very well, as the IEMs don't sit as free in my ears as in the measurement coupler where nothing is behind the vent.

One line shows a more or less "free-air" performance as if there was no ear close to the vent (freely sitting in the measurement coupler with literally nothing around and behind it), the other shows the FR with completely blocked vents.
Depending on how the IEMs sit in one's ears, the sound signature one is perceiving will be somewhere in-between both lines. In my ears and Nik's (@nmatheis), there was no lack of bass at all with the T3.
Just recently, I tried to flip the Titan 3 upside down so that the vent was pretty much freely sitting in my ears (the tip was perfectly sealing though, so the ensuing result was not seal-related). With that pretty much free vent, I suddenly faced the thin, upper-mid centric sound without bass emphasis some were describing.
Guess I am lucky about the way may ears's shape and the Titans' vents harmonise together, as especially the T3 sounds very even, balanced and correct in the mids the regular way I'm wearing it. For those who are facing way too thin, sibilant-prone upper mids and a lack of bass with the T3, I suggest either to go to a plastic surgeon to transform your ears' shape into mine or to try the tape mod.

Makes so much sense now that you've described it. Thanks loads!

I just realized my comparison post between the Dunu T3/T5, PSB M4U4, and Sony XBA-Z5 was only posted in the defunct Tour thread. So here is a link to the comparison

Damn these Titans!

They have simply spoiled me.  I am trying to find an on-ear headphone that I can use at work, but nothing touches the sound of the Titans.

There are times I would like more isolation, and I will admit there are times I would like more bass quantity (though it seems that often comes with some lack of quality).  I guess I'll just have to accept that I am not going to find anything that matches the wonderful Titan 1, I am truly in love with them.  Actually thinking I better order another pair to have a backup if the pair I have fail :)

You should check out the JVC HA-FXH30. VERY similar sound, better isolation, half the price. Can use them at work when you need the extra isolation. :)

Just found a way to make rubber tips more "comply", and it sounds awesome!

Take a some memory foam isolating earplugs and cut them into small discs, trim to size and punch a small hole in the middle, then stuff this ring onto the insides of large bore stock rubber tips and viola, comply comfort with rubber durability. They also give the really soft rubber tips a bit better (compressible) seal, without getting into longer tips that compromise shallow fit.

Got to this thread after seeing the Titan 1 in the top IEM list.

Finally ready to try them out. How would they compare against my RE400/600? And what exactly is the difference with the 1ES model that is selling for cheaper?

From my review:
Quote:
HIFIMAN RE400: The RE400 needs no introduction to the Head-fi scene. This 100$ titanium pellet has a warm neutral/slightly mid-forward signature with smooth treble. The Titan 1 is bassier, slightly V shaped with more emphasised treble. Not an obvious comparison here. The Titan 1 has the edge in sub-bass presence and as a result, presents similar levels of detail in a more noticeable/obvious manner and is is more enjoyable. The story is not the same when we climb into the mid-bass. Head-to head, the Titan 1 mid-bass seems woollier and less refined in comparison. The RE400 also edges the Titan 1 in mid-bass details retrieval and presentation. Both may not sound ideal(mid-bass response), but I find the RE400 to be more natural in this regard. The midrange is more linear on the RE400 and is more forward compared to the Titan 1 whilch has relatively recessed lower mids but more prominent upper mids. The level of detail is at similar levels, with the RE400 sounding relatively drier. The smooth treble is a contrast from the Titan 1 which is sounds edgier and more in-your-face, in comparison. Perceived detail retrieval is higher on the Titan 1 but I think the RE400 does remarkably well(but is not as upfront about it). The soundstage and space presented by the Titan 1 is more natural and enveloping that the more conventional RE400(in this regards).
On the whole, I feel they are both technically adept and cater to slightly different audiences. I would recommend the Titan 1 over the RE400 as a transition IEM for someone wanting to venture into neutral waters(before diving head-first).

The RE400/600 is a different flavor.

No experience with the 1ES.

Thanks for your quick reply. I do really have a neutral preference so looks like the RE400 (and the RE600 in my case) are still king.

I have been reading a little and found out that there is also two newer version, Titan 3 and Titan 5, the latter beeing even more v-shaped. So what would be the difference between Titan 1 and 3 ?

Would be nice actually to have a little résumé on OP about that.

From what I read, the es version uses a different housing - the reviewer wasn't impressed with its sq in comparison to the original (or the budget friendly Fiio version).

As for the T3 vs T1 - I couldn't compare them side by side because my brother never returned my T1, but I remember the T1 having a somewhat smooth open sounding, and with fast bass and treble. Evenly balanced throughout the FR. T1 is known to leak sound unto your outside environment so be warned.

T3 doesn't have leak out like the predecessor and has a whole different sound signature. T3 is mid focused, bass quantity sits behind the mids, and highs aren't as present as the former too. Mids have great resolution and is pretty much a totally different beast.

Except for 1 or 2 objections, the Titan 1 has a lot going for it in terms of strengths, and has one of the best value for your money. Good luck.
