DUNU DK-4001 --- Discussion & Impressions Thread

Answer - you won't find any peer reviewed tests. Telling isn't it!
Paul,

I don't want to go into the discussion about cable burn in being a thing or not, but in a more general sense it is not telling at all that you won't find any peer-reviewed tests. It is quite logical actually. Why would there be? Try looking at it from a scientist's point of view. Is it a compelling scientific line of enquiry to explore the potential changes to an IEM cable during use and its effect (or not) on sound? Is it worth putting a postdoc on that for a couple of years (at US$200k) and investing in the required equipment (thousands to hundreds of thousands of $)? There is a limited pool of science funding available and a limited amount of time, would this question sit high on anyone's priority list outside of a select few audiophiles?

Guys, let's not make this thread into yet another row about the audibility (or lack thereof) of cables with different materials. As someone who has always been a firm 'non-believer', I nevertheless have gone down the cable rabbit hole in years' past, and I happily 'wasted' my own money in the name of fun. The cable industry will continue to exist (and thrive --- just look at how much bigger Effect Audio has gotten) and there will always been 'believers' and 'non-believers'. People just need to agree to disagree.

Apropos the relevant topic, agreed with @Brooko on the verdict for the 40001 --- it is immensely enjoyable and I use it pretty much daily. It definitely deserves more attention.

My take on the Dunu DK-4001. An excellent flagship from Dunu. :)

As nice as the cable for the 4001 is, sometimes it's nice to go wireless. I paired the DK-4001 with the TRN BT20S, and while this chipsets doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the 4001's resolving capabilities, the sound is relaxed and smooth and makes listening from a jackless smartphone easy.

Upon further observation, I feel that the intrinsic output impedance of the BT20S is quite high. With increasingly higher output Z, the DK-4001 exhibits "extension sag," making higher output Z sources sound darker with the 4001. The 4001 sounds noticeably darker with the BT20S attached. This is better for long term listening, but it does make a highly resolving in-ear like the DK-4001 reproduce sound at way less than full potential. I'm still keeping the BT20S and will continue to pair it with the DK-4001, but I suspect it'll sound better with dynamic only in-ears.

Dunu has released a 17th anniversary edition flagship dynamic driver IEM only. For current market it is retail for less than 900 USD, which is a very good price for a DD flagship. Now how to buy one, as it is a set of 500 unit only.

That looks beautiful. Got any links?

If you have Weibo, there are a ton of pictures, but here's a link: https://zhuanlan.zhihu.com/p/77735054 (NOT a purchase link)
From all I can see, it is intended as a "coming of age" anniversary for DUNU, which has really shown off its new, more mature sonic tuning strategy in spades this past year.
The 17th anniversary model is the DK-4001 retuned as a pure dynamic driver model, and with a matte silver anodize (instead of black), as well as a wire without the exclusive copper shielding of the cable included with the DK-4001.
