Duet Kernel Panic Fix!!!

If you had kernel panics, I assume you hot-plugged/swapped your Duet. This is not a good idea with any FireWire device, whether contraindicated by the manufacturer or not.

i'm aware of that, and yes hot swapping the duet did cause panics for some users. google 'apogee duet kernel panic' to see the various other causes of panics with the duet. specifically the bizarre 2GB+ RAM issue.

I see the wording of your response changed shortly after its initial appearance, but the kernel panic problems with the Duet have indeed been deeply centered for the most part in hot-plugging/swapping. Hopefully you won't hot-plug/swap your Duet anymore, even with the new drivers

I have owned mine for a long time now, and have posted warnings against doing this in other Duet-related threads.

I'm glad to see the release of improved drivers, and of course installed them myself yesterday. I've never had a kernel panic or any other problem with the Duet, and have also never hot-swapped/plugged the device. Following conservative usage practices, I doubt I would ever have a Duet-related kernel panic with either the old or new drivers on any Mac in good health and meeting the system requirements.

i have absolutely no idea what your talking about.

> but the kernel panic problems with the Duet have indeed been deeply centered for the most part in hot-plugging/swapping.

yes some people have that problem, but my particular problem had to do with waking from sleep and was related to having more than 2GB of RAM. i don't hot swap firewire, i've heard too many horror stories.

your implication that i am for some reason lying or changing my position etc, is bizarre and offensive, and i have absolutely no idea where it is coming from.

i'm glad you haven't had problems, but you should educate yourself a bit more about the problems that people have had which have nothing to do with hotswapping before speaking. you might misinform people

I noticed that your post was edited before the time-out period expired, and thus does not include an edited tag at the bottom. Read my last post again carefully, and you should see that I said nothing offensive to you.

As far as suggesting that I seek further education in the world of Apple computers, you might be surprised to know that I am a top poster at Apple Discussions. I've been using Apple computers since 1985. As such, I do keep up to date with computing developments and carefully follow Apogee Duet-related commentary on Apple's turf.

oh yes i edited my original post to include this line:

"specifically the bizarre 2GB+ RAM issue."

if that's what you are referring to as 'changing the wording'.

It is soothing to know that you think of me as your pal. You may feel free to stop your tantrum now.

yes very surprised

would you consider the ridiculous proposition of limiting the amount of RAM to 2 gigabytes in a machine capable of 32 just to appease malfunctioning apple firewire drivers to be 'conservative usage practices', and 'meeting system requirements'? because that is what i would have had to have done to use my duet on 10.5.2. on my machine for it to wake from sleep properly or to change the samplerate.

you can reply and have the last word if you like. this is the last response you'll get out of me. like i said get an education, pal.

Welcome to my Ignore List. Your posts are simply too neurotic for me.

Ah, the Brotherhood of Mac ... er ... Man.

Sorry to interrupt the private pissing match, but I'm happy to report that the update does appear to have fixed my own wake-from-sleep woes. Which is nice.

Peace out, y'all.
