I am having trouble finding a place where i can buy these "online" I don't do amazon so that is out of the question. I will be using them with the audigy 2 zs platinum, so, should i go for something a bit lower, 150 - 200, or just get some 880's, cause... you know, they set the standard very nicely. I listen to all kinds of music, so I'm not REALLY worrying about what goes best with what.

depending what your amp is.. since DT880 have impedence rating of 250 ohms, amps are needed in order to bring out all potential.
If you're not intrested in getting an amp, you might want to consider audio-technicas, grados or ultrasones.

Welcome to Head Fi! and Sorry about your wallet!

What would you suggest for a noob? A good half decent amp + 880's. Most of my music is on a computer, so, how would that ever work

^ Uh ow, he just displayed his NuB- ness, blah blah blah...

Seriously though, i am also in ontario canada.

I think that you should get the DT880s + the Meier Corda 2Move. It's an EXCELLENT combo.

I've seen the DT880 around $180 on the US eBay. Great headphones; I love mine.

Personally, I don't think a portable amp does them justice and they sound far better with tubes.

Just to clear this up, impedance does NOT tell you how difficult something is to drive. It is related, but sensitivity tells you how loud they will get given a particular input. You have to consider the impedance of the headphones in light of the output impedance of the amp. That will tell you how efficiently the amp will deliver power. From there, you can calculate how much power actually gets to the headphones, where the sensitivity will tell you how loud it will get.

As for an amp, there are many on the market. I strongly suggest either buying a used one or building one. Both give you maximum benefit for your money.

If you want the DT-880 you can buy them from TTVJ(which pez linked to) which is a Head-Fi sponsor and a very trustworthy source.

Todd also notes that the older 2003 version is still available at a lower price than the newest version.

The Meier Corda 2Move is the ideal solution for your needs, there's a built-in DAC into the amp and you can connect it to your computer through the USB port. It's not that expensive for the quality that you have.($255 with the shipping included..) Jan Meier is a really cool guy and the service is wonderful. (It took 5 days to ship the amp in Montreal !!)

Meier Audio

The sinergy with this amp and the DT880s is really GOOD
