Is $160 a good price for a (new) pair of DT990 Pro's? What do people think of these cans? I want a really big, wide bright sound!

I think they're great phones. I own the 600ohm version, but I notice that most are now 250ohm. I don't know if this affects sound, or otherwise reflects a redesign. Mine are from the early '90s. I believe they offer diffuse field technology. I've never figured out exactly what that means, but, yes, you should get the wide cinemascope picture you're seeking.

Yes I would describe their sound as big, wide and bright. Bass is also very good. I got mine for AU$295 so US$160 looks like a good deal.

There are two different version: the Pro and 2005 model. The pro goes for around that price on ebay and here in the forums. The 2005 model is averaging 235-250 here.
