I know it says that it's 32ohm, but that's just a copy and paste error.  I had the 250ohm version and thought it was the best headset I've ever listened to. I gave them to my son so he could 'hear' what good music is supposed to sound like.  If this is still on sale next week, I'll buy the 600ohm too.  At $170, I think it's a steal. I already have a LD MKII amp which I'm happy with also.  This Head-Fi site has really assisted me in my journey. I don't listen to music all the time, so I like it to be a great experience when I do.  Have a nice day.

Used DT990 Pro with Audiotrak DR.DAC2 DX for 2 years before switching to DT880 600 Ohm. Music preferences changed from heavy for more neutral. 990 good but harsh to some degree in treble. Mid-bass powerful and have good impact but not suitable for some genres. Still good memories.

I have the Premium 250 Ohm version and I find the treble very harsh, even sibilant with certain bright amps. Other than this I like them. I wanted to know if anyone knows of a simple mod that might deal with this before I get rid of them.

I have read someone removed the foam and placed a small piece of tissue under it, and experimented with layers and size till he got the upper octave(s) in question softened or to his/her liking.

I see. So basically experimenting with covering the drivers. I assume whatever material used that it should cover the whole driver? I have some extra foam insets from another pair of beyers I wonder if just putting two layers of that foam would do the trick...

I have two tube amps (Bravo Ocean, Schiit Valhalla) and neither help much. The Bravo maybe a little but still painful . I have very sensitive hearing.

For me personally, I found the Vali 2 with 6CG7 tube and the Valhalla 2 with the stock tubes made the DT990 treble tolerable.

Looking at the response graphs for this headphone I see a spike around the 8khz range. I came up with this eq setting in Foobar2000 to deal with it (-2 at 6k and 10k, -5 at 8k). I will try it out when I get home later. Anyone else wanna share their EQ settings?

Im not sure if covering the whole driver wont make the sound seem veiled.
I think increase the size till it is enough attenuation.
extra foam may or may not help, but I think its pretty acoustically transparent.
 
I have the 600OHM, and not sure if they sound different, but  am also 43 and listened to loud music most of m life, and with testing I see that my hearing falls off in the 12-13K range with the dip increasing till 16K whee I hear nothing unless really LOUD.
I wish I had the problem that highs were too high lol.

Have you tried them with your teac HA P50.

That is one warm sounding amp much more so than a tube amp of the Bravo Ocean class. Too smooth for me in fsct

No it's on loan. But it was pretty flat to me, similar to my UD-H01. I really don't want to "fix" it by buying more gear though. If I can't do it easily with a mod or EQ I will have to let them go.

Ok so I "fixed" it completely with EQing in foobar2000. I used the response graph below as a starting point.

In the end I ended up with the setting below (-3db at 6khz and 10khz, and -6db at 8khz).

 
I normally stay away from EQ at all costs, but I didn't want to give up on this great headphone for such a small issue. Now I can tolerate it perfectly well with my Valhalla . I suggest anyone else with this issue to give this a try, let me know if it helps!

I've always enjoyed the dt990's... The 3 times I've owned it haha... But now I'm using a liquid carbon with an Audio Gd Dac 19 and it's almost a different headphone. Highs are so smooth and pleasant to listen to. Just a fun phone to listen to!
