DT880 or K701 to go with my Corda Move?

I just purchased a Corda Move yesterday, and I should be receiving it in about 10 days. Now I just need some headphones for it to pair up with.

I currently own a pair of Grado SR225s, but I'm selling those (unfortunately) because I would like to try out a different brand of headphones. I'm looking for more of an all-around headphone. Also, I have a pair of SR60s that I'll be keeping.

Basically, I want a large soundstage, comfort, and detail. From what I understand, I'll get all three of those things with the DT880 or the K701.

I know a lot of Beyer owners purchase Meier amps, so I would assume there's some good synergy going on there, but in all honesty I'm not sure what amps are popular with the K701.

I've heard that the DT880 doesn't have much bass, and that is a slight concern of mine. I'm certainly not a basshead, but I like for the bass to have a noticeable presence and punch to it when I listen to music.

I prefer the looks of the DT880 (for use in public, anyways), but I don't want to make aesthetics an important factor in this decision.

As far as the kind of music I listen to, it's mostly indie rock/pop. Here's my chart. I would like a headphone that makes Feist sound as wonderful as possible (her soulful voice, specifically).

So, if anyone has any suggestions that would be fantastic. Thanks!

if you want a toilet o nyour head, get the k701

i kid.

i guess you cant go wrong with the dt880... the move is supposedly a very warm amp that adds a bunch of bass. the k701 seems like a good candidate too since a lot of people drive the k701 out of meier amps too.

you just need to narrow down which headphone you will like best in terms of comfort and price?

If I end up deciding on the K701, I'd like to buy it used, so I figure the price would be similar to a new DT880. Unfortunately, I can't really judge based on comfort, because I don't know of any places where I can test them out.

It's good to hear that the Move adds some bass, though. That makes the 880s a little more appealing to me at the moment.

I have not heard any of these cans but based on what I've read, I would not count on your amp to add the bass you're probably wanting from a DT880. Rather, I would think the Move would add warmth to the DT880's slightly bright character.

I would consider buying the 2005 DT990 before the DT880 or K701 and suggest you do the same.

don't know the amp, but do have lots of time with 880's and 701's. I think the880's generally are better for direct presentation of pop, they're a lot closer to yoru SR-225's. But people react differently, so try both if you can (cna maybe some Senn's )

JeremyN, I own both, and I can tell you that the k701's have less heft in the lower ranges than the DT880's.

But I wouldn't say that either are really deficient in the bass. They don't have enough bass to keep real bass heads happy, but they have plenty for me, and I like to listen to a lot of the same music as you.

But of the two, I would recommend the DT880's.

I'd go with the 701's personally, they sounded so good to me

I don't think you can really go wrong with either one.

But I think the DT880's have the edge in overall balance, detail, resolution and comfort.

Well I haven't heard either balanced, but then again the OP is prolly not gonna buy balanced cans either.

If the 880's didn't have that quick sharp peak in the upper midrange and treble I'd be happier with it. It just has an odd peak in the treble and upper midrange that makes it sound not natural to my ears.

The 701 sounds very organic to me though. It will probably be my next headphone

possibly. they're for sale at the moment, but if they don't sell then I will hang onto them until the amp gets here. I would definitely like to listen to them through the Move, but I don't think it will change my decision to sell them and get the K701 or DT880.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I still have a while to make my decision, and right now I'm leaning towards the K701, but that's because I've just been looking through the K701 threads over the past day or two.

I run DT-880s out of a MOVE and don't have any gripes. I don't think they're short on bass at all, it works really well with most music. I've found the 880s are really source-sensitive though.

That's the K701 for you. It really does make female voice shine. I also have the sr225 and find it too hard to listen while having my playlist on random, the K701 does it better.
