So now ive gone from going for the hd595's to the dr150's. But i got money to spare and i do want headphones to keep me satisfied for the long time.Im pretty dead set on getting a corda move though. So now im thinking dt880 or the 990.
Ill be listening to mainly vocally trance, drum n bass, chill out/ambient. And bit of rnb/breaks rap.
Sorry if im getting anoying just really want to make the best choice

I haven't heard either but from what I've read the DT990 would be more suited to the music you're describing. The DT880 have been written as being a little bass-shy whereas the DT990 are quite bassy.

That's weird, I've heard that the DT880 has much more bass than the DT990's, I've been told multiple times that the DT880's have spectacular bass.

We're obviously reading different things then

I'm sure someone who has heard both will be along soon to clear it up.

You haven't been reading that here at Head-Fi...

880's have very good bass, taut and nimble, very well controlled. But the bass extension is not as deep as with the 990's.

990's have deeper extension, more bass punch.

yeah, i owned both for awhile and while i ultimately didnt enjoy the presentation of either IMHO the DT-990 should suit your music preference better, tonally they sounded the same but the DT990 focused on the low end more than DT880.

I vow this to be my last time to say this since i've said it too many times and i know people have different tastes but here goes... STAY AWAY FROM THE 990s hehehe and if the 880s are similar, run away from them too. Its good for ear torture. 5 minutes listening to the 990 05 eds made my ears ring

For any type of vocal music, you want dt880. I prefer 880 over 990 for almost everything. Their tone is much more natural, sounds more realistic. The bass is NOT shy by any means, sure, the 990 has got more of it, but not as deep to my ears. This is probably because of a bump right before the deepest bass, which masks the very deepest bass. The dt880 do not have this bump, and therefor sounds deeper in comparison.

DT990 might be more "fun" on some records, but those records are far a part. Every vocal has got some odd harshness, like an extra bite. This might make it more fun, but also sounds unnatural. The harshness is only in comparison to other cans. While DT990 was my only can, I did not find them harsh in the vocals.

There is one record which dt990 do better than any can I've tried. And that is Mastodon - Leviathan. It's pretty much the reason why I'm keeping them at the moment.

If you are sensitive about prominent hights, 990 are not for you. They have very prominent hights. If the recording is not very good in the hights, it might mask everything else with a SssSssssSssssSsssSsss. 880 can have this also, but the hights are not as prominent and don't mask everything else if that happens.

Yes, unamped dt880 is not good. They need an amp.

EDIT: The move is probably very good with either of them. I think you will be satisfied with dt880. It does sound much more refined and hi-end than dt990. The dt990 is not bad phone at all though, just not as refined as dt880.

when were talking bout these headphones in what league are they in:
are they a step above the 595's dr-150's etc?
Ive heard sum say that these are as good or even better as 650's

They are a step above the 595s pricewise and are more refined "grainwise" but the dt990s at least feel very sterile and inorganic. If they were speakers I would say they are the b&w nautilus series with the bright treble and boomy bass while the 595s are more like a good horn loaded system powered with a SET amp

B&W Nautilus has boomy bass?

OK. Thanks.

Now I know that you and I will simply never agree on anything...
