I'm looking to buy a DT880 and have been looking around. I noticed there are different versions of it, such as 2005, 2006, w/ & w/o leather foam, pro version and non-pro (maybe there isn't a non-pro ver.) and I'm kinda getting confused.

My question is how many different versions are there? Which version would you recommend? Is there any improvement from old version to new version?

FYI: I mainly listen to pop music with intensively mids (both male and female voice) and movie soundtracks (w/ piano & violin) sometimes. I'm not getting HD650 mainly b/c i don't want sacrifice the highs and prefer bright sound.

First of all there is NO 2006 version. The latest, as far as Beyerdynamic is concerned, is the 2005 version. Their website is http://www.beyerdynamic-usa.com/cms/...05.0.html?&L=1 Individuals in the USA have decided to call their stock Beyers 2006 - but they are actually 2005.

Secondly, this same question, IIRC was covered as a thread within the last month - suggest you try the search button for an already wide discussion.

I have owned the 2003 250 ohm version, and much prefer my 2005 600 ohm version which can only be ordered from the Beyerdynamic "Manufacture" page. They are have a markedly more cohesive sound (especially smoother treble. The only other caveat is don't get Pleather earpads. Some people like Velour.........and some prefer the Genuine Leather that will only come with 'phones ordered from the "Manufacture" page.

Appreciate your reply!
I just found some related threads that explains the difference between pro and non-pro versions. As for the 600 ohm version you ordered from manufacture page, was the headset shipped from Germany? how much is the total you paid for it? is the shipping expensive?
