I've had my DT880s for about 6 months now, and as I first started listening to them today they developed a buzzing sound during strong bass notes in the left ear. I'm using a Millett Hybrid with 12AE6A tubes.

Up until this happened I was in love with the headphones. Perfect excuse to buy some new ones though.

I had the exact same problem with my dt770's. Owned them for a month or so, and then suddenly one day the left ear started buzzing during bass. So i sent them back to the shop I bought them from, and they repaired them. After that they worked just fine. But now 3 months later they have started to buzz again. Same ear, only this time even more buzzing

I sent them back again a couple of days ago so they can fix it while im away on vacation for 2 weeks. Sure sucks though.

I'd look for a hair as well. Probably go over the foam pad with a lint roller or a bit of tape until it stopped pulling up crud.

Any minute now, a guy will come along and tell you that you just need a better amp.

It's pretty simple. Either there's something interfering with the free motion of the driver - like a hair or maybe the dome over the driver is pushed in a bit - or the driver itself is failing. Or a wire or something is rattling against the baffle or cup, which you should be able to fix with some tape or bluetak or just bending it away from surfaces. Or BushGuy hasn't personally given your amp his stamp of approval, but only one side of it is insufficient.

Up to know I have kept any comment strictly to o.p. questions and problems. In post #4 he has chosen to create an additonal issue. Poor EricJ is feeling hurt that not everyone respects or agrees with him..............and up to post #6 - poor is most descriptive.....if stamps of approval/descriptives are sought.

I've always wondered how the DT-xxx phones manage to get hair in them so often. There's 2 walls of fabric protection there, and the white one is very finely threaded.

open-cell foam can actually attract hairs depending on the composition.

Not only that, but my DT801 liked to get hairs stuck straight through the driver diaphragm itself.

That's a mind bender. I was really surprised when I saw that for the first time when repairing my DT-990 (here). The hairs were fused into the diaphragm. The diaphragm itself wasn't sticky at all and didn't have holes. I'm stumped. Do you know what causes it?

I lint rolled all of the crud off the foam after pulling the earpads off. It seemed to help somewhat, but on certain songs with really powerful low end there's a slight rustling sound, like something is barely in reach of the driver. I'll take it apart sooner or later if it becomes a problem.

I can still use it as an excuse to buy a new pair though.

I think the diaphragm is made from some kind of extraterrestrial material. I accidentally pushed the middle dome in on one, and it stuck very securely to the rubber piece behind it. Even after removing the diaphragm from the plastic basket, it still took a lot of work to get it unstuck in the middle. When it was finally unstuck I could not find anything that was the least bit sticky on either surface.

I searched as best I could and couldn't find a good guide to dismantling the DT880s. Anyone happen to have a quick reference that could help me out?

I guys do you think i might have the same problem with my CD3000 driver. It is buzzing when i play some powerfull bass. I tought i did got it ok by sucking air within the driver area but now it came back. Do you think i could get the problem fixed only by opening it up and look for hair or is my driver broken?
