Open, open? Like easily hear the outside world open? Hear the phone ring open? Really don't look that way, but someone who has them would know best.

Solude,

so basically you want a "foot tapper"? I believe Snufkin likens the DT531 to a foot tapper.

To answer your original question, the DT880 shares a lot of sonic characteristics with the HD600. I especially like female vocals on the DT880 (like Sade, sex jazz). It is not forward like any Grado.

I hope the Stax give you what you're looking for. For pure emotionalism I like my K1000. (everything else, beside the DT880, sounds like a headphone).

The CD3000s are a strange beast. They let outside noise in rather easily, but don't really let a lot out, so they don't disturb those around you. At least they work that way for me.
Regarding the question of the DT880s, I would not call them warm at all. To my ears, they have an upper midrange peak which imparts a bit of brightness. No warmth there.

It just looks that way. There's a gasket inside the enclosure. It's really closed.

What he said

They let external noise in, and they don't "seal" at all -- acoustically, they're not closed.
