I want arguments why I should buy either, cheaper options are also welcome.

I'm planning to use portable, I don't care if they leak some sound, just so they don't scare the people in the bus.

As you can see from my choices, I'm looking for bass.

Music I listen to:
Massive Attack
Pink Floyd
Random Trance
Nin
Some classic music
Collide
Some Metal

I'm not planning to buy a portable amp, atleast not in a few months.

I've found both options for 175e when I order from Germany (about $200).

Also, If anyone knows a headphone shop (other than Kruunuradio) in Finland, I'd be very happy because this would allow me to test the headphones before I buy them.

For portable use, your choice is none. The Senn are described as very good portable cans, although I heared some people describing them boomy, sceamy and overpriced.
IMO, the DT770 is a far better can in sonical respect, but because of its "unportability" no choice for your needs.

Why not considering the Alessandro MS1 , which is almost a Grado 125 instead of these redneck Senns !? You might get 15% less sheer bass, but 100% more hifi, so they will still work fine when you get older and your taste extends to different genres. And they are cheaper, 99 $ + tax.

Are DT770's useable for portability?

I already have MB Quart QP400's for home use (about $200). I am only looking for a headphone for portable use.

MS1 for portable use? Open ?? Leaks sound less than closed DT770??

well you can carry the beyer dt770 around like i do. i use them instead of the portapros (sound leakage factor), and i don't really care about size, so for me it's portable. mind you, it's certainly not like carrying an iriver and a pair of shures or anything like that. but it's not 'unportable'

if u just care about sound leakage factor the beyers seem to do fine, the only time anyone else can hear my music is if i absolutely blare it in a REALLY quiet environment. think a bus at 4am without any other traffic. otherwise the amount of isolation both ways is absolutely great.

For the portable use the HD 25-1 are hard to beat. I've been using them with my iPod and they sound great. They have great bass and good mids. I find the highs a bit harsh at times but I think this is partly to do with the files I'm playing. I'm very happy with the HD 25-1 for use with my iPod.

I think the Beyer DT 770 would be too big.

The HD25s aren't bad at all! But overpriced for the sound you get. And you might want to change the cable to an OFC cable which improves the soundquality a lot. I'd say they can compare to many good $100 headphones.

Other options often mentioned are the HD280s and HD201s. (The latter are the new FOTM* for their price/performance ratio) I have no experiance with either.

They are some other head-fier in Finland, maybe it's time for another Finland meet. I'd suggest you a least contact them for store suggestions. (You can search in the members list for members from Finland)

I find the DT 770-80 to be too big for portable use and they're not very easy to drive either. The HD 25-1 is much easier to drive and smaller in size. Considering its portability, it's not overpriced in my opinion. However, $200 sounds too much for the Hd 25-1. You can get them used for under $140.

HD 25-1:

Another headphone to consider would be the Ultrasone HFI 650 Trackmaster and Beyerdynamic DT 250-250. I thought the Ultrasone was a bit too bright and the Beyer a bit hard to drive from an ipod. The 250-250 is an excellent headphone however.

The DT770 even in 80 ohm version still needs a lot to drive it. In actual fact, there is not a great deal of difference in volume between the 250 and 80 ohm version. You would think that the 80 ohm would be a lot louder but it isn't. (I prefer the sound of the 250 ohm version myself)

In any case - both are not good for portable use. Too quiet.

I've used MB Quart QP400's as portables, not in busses though. They are quite quiet, but I don't mind that much. I think that 80ohm will be a lot louder than my 300ohm Quarts.

As you can see, I'm strongly defending the DT770's

I liked the KSC-35 more than the HD25-1. Bass is nice and big (bit bloated even) and it's forward and in your face with the mids with nice highs. Being earclips, they are 100 percent portable, and tho they leak in and out, they won't bother your busmates too badly.

Plus for 20 bucks on ebay from creative's inventory dump you can't go wrong.

I take my wonderful dt770's on the bus every day and I don't notice anybody staring so I don't think they stand out THAT much. Imho I think the silver cups help alot with the styling.

Oh yeah: I have yet to find a music player that cannot drive the beyers to a quite reasonable level. Even my little Muvo TX FM can drive them to very high (almost uncomfortable) levels.

I used my DT-770 pros portably for some time. Replacement for shure e2c, replaced with etymotic 4S. My observations.

Pros: Tough as nails construction ensured that despite being tossed around in my backpack (Which at one point get dropped out of a car going at 80 km/h (don't ask)) they don't have a mark on them.

Isolation: Okay, not as good as my etys, but fine for the bus and what not.

Comfort: Very good.

Cons: Looks large, a non-issue for me, but you might care.

Sound quality: Out of portables is not as good as it might be, but was not offensive to my ears. The headphone jack on my ipod is simply insufficent for them.

Sound quality: Overall isn't magnificant, mids are scooped, but I am a guitar based listener, and still like them.

Overall: I'd recommend them if you where looking at a set. Flexiable for computer, portable and transportable usage!
