If not, what's a cheap amp that will give me the full sound of these cans?

Gary states that the DT770 can be driven with the PA2v2. I think its written somewhere on his site (if not, I guess I read it in an e-mail he sent me).

PA2v2 will sound good with 80 Ohm 770 until you hear them with something better. That's my nice way of saying that I didn't like the combo...not enough power imo to do them justice at levels nearing "unsafe".

What did you find was missing when you upgraded?



Also, will the 250 Ohm version definitely not be well-driven by the PA2V2? .. All I can find online is the 250 Ohm version...

i ran into that problem as well and went to Guitar Center and picked up my 80 version there...

i would also like to know if the Pa2v2 is able to power the DT770/250 well enough? i have the same problem here, all i can find are the 250ohm versions, but can't find the 80ohms ones....

I bought the PA2v2 for use with IEMs...with my mistake of not having Gary set the gain low...so of course it was tested with full size cans. I found that it had poor control of bass and would seem to "clip" when attempting to drive my 80 Ohm 770 to levels that I would normally use with AC powered amps. If you listen at low to moderate levels the PA2v2 is just fine but try to crank out some bass heavy music and it fails.

I bought my 770 Pro/80 at GC too.

Yes. It drives those cans fine. PA2v2 is a good entry amp, but you'll be wanting more eventually. Even just for the sake of curiosity.

I find my nano can drive the 770's louder than I care to listen unamped. I have the limiter set with about ~72ish db with soundcheck for my hd-25's, 65-67 dp w/ soundcheck with dt-770's - volume limit is around 50%.

I tend to prefer low volume listening, though.

Just buy the 80 ohm version of the DT 770 PRO. The 250 ohm version will not give you any added value.

Thats a good thing. I listen at sane volumes most times but sometimes I get carried away. I don't think that I've ever dared to listen to my 770 straight from an iPod. Even at low volumes quality amping matters...case in point: I sometimes get lazy and use my 325i to sample music on my laptop(because they're the only cans that even stand a chance from its headphone out). Sure, they get fairly loud but when I come to my senses and plug in my portable USB DAC/amp there's a noticeable improvement in SQ even at low to moderate volume.
