Ok. My girl friend has aquired my m50x cans and my fiio a3 amp. I do now have a fiio a5 amp though. I am thinking dt770 over another set of m50x. So with the a5 amp should I go 80 or 250 ohm. I kinda like the coiled cable on the 250 ohm for on the go but not a deal breaker as I may modify either to be a detachable cable. I can eq either to taste. I do suffer midrange hearing loss and a little real high frequency loss so opinions please.

Hey!

Just got myself a DT770 Pro 250 Ohm. I love it so far. I also have a Grado GS1000i, but sometimes it is handy to block the noise from the computer fan or any other room noise.... :) so decided to play with a closed can...

It actually works well even without the amp, straight from my old iPod classic if I’m out and about... I am positively surprised by the noise isolation. But my main setup runs a Schiit Bifrost and the Valhalla 2...

I haven’t heard the 80Ohm version, but I was told the 250Ohm might be a tid bit better, especially if you have an amp. Yeah, the coiled cable is nice, I do use an extension though, so must confess it doesn’t matter that much.

The bass is quite nice but the mids and highs are pretty good too. I do have an equalizer for certain songs, but overall I think it is pretty detailed. I was listening to Money for nothing / Dire Straits and the guitar sounds impressive. :) :) :)

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply. Really leaning towards the pro 250 ohm. Not as much bass as the 80 ohm I have read but better detail and mids. II rea the treble can be a tad hot but wih my hearing loss? Lol. I understand the 250 ohm have a better soundstage also.

Its a very bright headphone with recessed mids...lends itself to EDM,pop and hip/hop.
Rock/metal and most other types of music not so much

Ugh. I am a rocker and jazz lover. 70 80's rock. Big band. Progressive rock. Modern jazz ect. Not into hip hop so what do you suggest? Can I not eq the brightness down?
What about pink floyd lol!!
Back to m50x again???

hmmmmm not sure about it’s brightness.... ‘cause I love jazz and rock, and it sounds pretty good to me.... Dark side of the moon is my favorite album to check the speakers/headphones.... and i am really enjoying it. It is definitely different from the Grado and KEF Q700 but not bad at all!

Cheers!

I have an old ADC equalizer (5 channels), yeah, I’m sure you can bump up the mids and fine tune the sound... :)
It is pretty comfortable too.... the velvet pad feels almost like a pillow :) and the top strap is also soft. It doesn’t feel like pressing hard at all. ( i was used to the super light Grado, so was a bit concerned about closed cans, but I am loving it so far! :)

Yeah! I was playing NIB from Black Sabbath for instance, as another testing track... and it rocks! i’m a happy puppy! also played Stimela, from Hugh Masekela, Tin Pan Alley, Stevie Ray Vaughan... or Holy Cole, Patrícia Barber and Diana Krall for some jazzy vocals... not bad at all... :)
