Howdy.

I have been considered buying either of these two headphones. I've also thought about the DT990, but I think a closed headphone would fit my situation better (college student)...

and the million dollar question is, which one is better??? lol.

First, I love bass. I was looking for more deep, punchy, truely powerful bass. I usually end up listening to music in short bursts (10-15 min here and there) and wanted something to just kick me in the pants kind of deal. I've searched and read on here quite a bit and figured the DT770 would be the headphone. I read one review where the bass on the DT770 gave him hearing problems and he had to send them back!! Haha!!

Most reviews comparing the D2000 and the DT770 lean toward the D2000. Is the bass very gripping on the D2000? Do they reproduce really low bass very well? I just wanted more input and what you guys thought. How's the treble comparison?

Mostly, I listen to Hip-Hop/Rap and lots of Classical. No kidding hahaha.

Any thoughts are appreciated it. Thanks so much for you time.

P.S. The D2000 are 25 ohm while the DT770 are at 250 ohm? How much of a differences does this make? I will invest in an amp, but just wanted to sort out the proper headphone.

P.S.S. Sorry, one more question. I noticed HeadRoom is out of DT770. Is Beyerdynamic planning on releasing newer headphones soon? I suppose 2005 is almost 3 years old...?????

Once modded the D2000 is hands down the better can. I havn't heard the dt770 modded so I cant say for sure, but if youre comparing stock to stock, then the Denons are warmer and more detailed.

I like the D2000's, but the bass doesn't have very much impact. It has very low bass, but the impact just isn't very great. If you like impactful bass, I would go for the DT770's. You should also consider the Ultrasone HFI-780. The D2000's are actually very polite.

If you want nothing but bass and more bass, get the DT770. If you want more detail and clearer mids/highs in addition to great bass (but not quite as much as the DT770, still plenty for my ears though), get the D2000. I've had my D2000's for a while now and I'm still very very happy with them.

Thanks for the replies.

What about modding the DT770? How do the V3 Darth Beyer's or Luke SkyBeyer's sound in comparison to a modded D2000.

Also, with the original (non-modded) DT770, how are the highs? Are they bright and piercing like the DT990?

Thanks again for the help! I sincerely appreciate it!!

I have a totally different opinion, the bass impact is right there with the beyers without the midbass bloat and it does mids and highs better, just an overall better can. I know I sold off two pair of dt770's

They are on the bassy side, but sound natural doing it, I would say in quantity about 90% of the dt770, sr-225 is about 55%.

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll get the DT700.

I still have one question. Why is the DT770 2005 sold out? All I find is the PRO version, and I definatly don't want that - it's extremely ugly lol.

Is Beyerdynamic coming out with a 2008 edition or something? I have yet to find a solid answer to this question, so any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I don't know but the black 80ohm pro version sound better than the newer 2005 model according to Skylab.
