I have just come from a bass orientated pair of headphones (Sony MDR-V700) and i purchased the DT770 (250) from Ebay and they sound very very bass light when i plug the headphones in to my STX. Is there a way to sort this? If not i might send them back and look for a more 'Bass head" pair.

The thing is, when people often recommend the DT770 they forget to mention that the DT770 80 ohms version is the bassiest version of the DT770.

What is the gain setting at on your STX?
 
The 250 ohm version is less bassy than the 80 ohm version but still a very bassy headphone IMO.

I have tried both the higher settings, 64-300 and 300-600 and they still seem to be lacking in the bass thump

Well the DT-770s don't really get a lot of bass until the frequencies drop below 200Hz, so if your music doesn't have a lot of sub bass or your amp isn't putting it out or your ears don't hear it, you won't notice the extra bass.
 
Personally I love the tight bass on mine, but it's not overdone like a lot of bass-head amps (V100 or Beats or XB500 etc). Instead it's strong and thumpy without overiding the rest of the spectrum.
 
If you want LOTS of bass then the DT-770s may not be the right headphones for you.
