hi,

i play at church where we're using normal monitors on the floor (also commonly known as wedges). how can i plug the monitor feed direct to my IEMs (E3)? must i go through any devices to limit the volume or to bring the levels down or anything? can someone recommend some setups?

You might be better off searching a pro audio community such as Harmony-Central or the Live Audio Board.

I'll try to answer your question. You mentioned that the current setup involves standard floor wedges. Those speakers get their signal from an aux send on the monitor mixing board. That signal would go into any number of processing devices (usually an EQ, compressor/limiter, etc.) and then into a power amplifier. From there it would be plugged into the speaker. For IEM's you can simply take the aux send from the board and plug it into a headphone amplifier (commonly known as a "wired IEM system") or you could plug it into a wireless transmitter.

You asked if you need to plug into any device to limit the volume, and my opinion is yes. As I mentioned, you would take an aux send from the monitor mixing board, and plug it into either a hardwired headphone amplifier or a wireless transmitter. In either case you would have a beltpack for volume control, and most IEM packs have limiters built in. A limiter is essential for onstage use of in-ear monitors. Don't take chances with your hearing.

Check those other boards I mentioned and search for topics regarding IEM's at houses of worship.
