Sometimes I need a break for my cans, so I've got a pair of Polk Audio T15 powered by a Yamaha R-S201 that's fed by my USB AlienDAC. It sounds fine, but I have to crank up the volume to near max on the Yamaha to get what I want out of the Polks. As a stop gap, I put my XPamp in front of the Yamaha receiver, which rectifies the volume problem, but I wonder if this is abusing the amp and perhaps not delivering the best sound I can get from my cheap T15 speakers.

Is there a better solution, e.g. is this the correct application for a "preamp" between my line-level DAC and Yamaha receiver? If so, can I get recommendations in the $80-150 range?
