Hello!
Wich would be the better choice to drive AKG's K701: Musical Fidelity X-CanV3 or MingDa MC66AE?.

The X-CanV3+AKG K701 (I've already tested) in my opinion don't have much bass...beatifull mids and highs but bass is poor.

Sorry everyone about the bad english we use in Portugal.....

I have the MC66-AE

The thing is, using all the tubes at my disposal, the K701 doesn't sound right to my ears.

It sounds like you want better bass, but do you want louder bass or deeper bass?

Problem is, I felt the K701 never paired well, it sounded like it was confused, half way between the tubey sound and the K701's punchy, dynamic sound. It was like it was elasticy and not here or there. This may be to your liking but for me I couldn't listen to it, sounded wrong. The DT880 on the other hand was much better.

Might I suggest that you have a look at changing your source? I find my DAC-AH puts a lot of bass into any amp/phone in front of it.

edit: you can find the pink floyd mod kits and info here - http://www.rock-grotto.co.uk/xcanpropage.htm

Yes maybe the solution is change source ...or headphones....!?. The problem with AKG's bass is that some times is beautifull and deep, but some other times wen it should be punchy..., is not!!! Your DAC probably is much better them my Mission dAC5, but sadly is not easy to find here in Europe, and if I order one from US,it will be highly taxed.
Thanks

I don't really know about the MingDa but my X-Can v3 is great to listen to with the K701. I really find no fault with the bass, it is punchy and tight.. My Aria has less bass actually.. but this may be because of the mods done to my unit..

What mods did you made at your X-CanV3?
